Do any ladies here have the contraceptive implant?

My doctor was talking about this today and said it is something I should consider as an alternative to the pill.

Not a chance in hell! I hate needles so no way am I subjecting myself to an injection, then having my arm cut with a scalpel and then having what can only be described as a matchstick shoved under my skin. I have been reading up about it and made the mistake of watching a video of it being done (I seriously nearly passed out).

I am just wondering if anyone here has had it done? I could not do it, no way - especially
since its only good for three years, then you have to have it taken out and a new one inserted......

my friend got it done, she said it didnt hurt much when they put it in....

The thought of it is something I don't really fancy myself. I get the jag every 3 months, over in seconds and not having to be done for another 3 months :-D

I had one a few years back but had it taken out after 6 months - it just made things worse for me (periods). The putting in of it is fine - they do numb your arm you know and you don't have to watch! But the taking out of it isn't all that nice, once tissue has grown around it then it becomes difficult to pull out and even though your arm is numbed you can still feel them tugging about to find it. I've heard it's different for everyone though

Yea, I had heard that some people just don't get on with it. There is simply no way I could make myself do it, definitely not if there was a chance it would have to be taken out soon after!

As I get migraines I have been moved to the Cerazette pill. If I wasn't such a wimp I would go for the jab but I hate needles and am scared it would hurt!!

Apparently its fine going in but sore as hell coming out.

I went for the coil, have 3 kids so it was the easiest option for me, was scared that if I took the implant the kids might knock my arm and it would hurt.

I took the copper coil, apparently it doesn't release any of the hormones that might make you put on weight etc, I'm also guaranteed a period with this one so I know that if I miss it then something is up.

I would have told her to shut her yap!

Needles are enough to send me over the edge - I still don't know why I went ahead with the implant - young & naive I suppose!

I got one put in almost 2 years ago. No problems at all.

Been taking "the pill" before that for about 10 years and it´s nice to not
have to remember to take it every night.

Maybe we should tell that to the girl thats having sex with you, if there is one. :w00t:

i havent but i would have considered it if i could have used hormones.

I had one before we got married and putting it in was ok but they had a horrendous job getting it out and were on the verge of sending me to hospital to get it out under general! Then I ended up bleeding really heavily for 2/3 weeks after i had to have time of work as I was so ill and run down. Doc was wondering if I'd had miscarrige at one point. I went on pill for a bit till I had children and now have a coil which is fantastic no periods after first few months. I'd never have another implant if you paid me

Snap took the coil with hormones in it 1st thought I was losing my mind had it removed and have the copper one in 6 years now its brill and when its up for renewal will have another one in lol

Can't be as painful as giving birth!!!

I've got one no problems at all love not having to remember the pill lol

Been on Pill when younger, had side effects, put on weight with it,made by boobs sore, had like a bit of tissue in my boob at time that hardened, had to go to breast clinic and all of that, never again, onyl good thing about it was it helped my acne, was on Dianette pill, and it helps clear up acne.
After I had my 1st baby side effects of pill disappeared, and I didn't get acne anymore so motherhood was good thing early on for me at 20.
I've never been on any other forms of contraception since other than my partner wearing condoms.Ddon't fancy this injection one, don't fancy those rods OP talk of,wouldn't go back on Pill again and as for the coil, well my Mum had 1 those decades ago and it was put in wrong and she got all torn uterus and she had tons of bother later on that she puts down to the coil.
Gotta say there been times when me and my partner been slack and not used a condom but I've been pretty confident when I'm ovulating and when not and guess we got lucky I not fallen pregnant unexpected. All my children been planned, but the 1st one was bit of surprise,we been trying ages and it just didn't happen and I didn't think it would and it got put to the back of my mind about it.

If I accidently fall pregnant than I'm not going go have an abortion cos well i that was case I shouldn't be indulging anyway, best way avoid pregnancy, well bit crude to put... but you get the idea.

Maybe my partner going get the snip after this 1 is born,I know I'm not being sterilised cos I done all the work of carrying and giving birth and it's sounds more straight forward for guy to,so I'll leave choice to him.

Another question.

I have been looking at the side effects of the new pill I have been prescribed and I am really not happy about it. With my old pill I would take it for three weeks then have a weeks break. With the new one you take it continuously and it can make periods very irregular and random. This isn't any good for me at all.

I am due to start taking the new ones in two weeks time and I am going on holiday at the end of September and I really don't want to be dealing with irregular periods on holiday!

Do you think if I go back to the doctor and say that I am not happy with the new pill (which I was put on because I stupidly told him I get migraines, wish I had kept my mouth shut now) that he will put me back on my old one? At least until I am back from holiday?

Well it's your choice to take the Pill or not,so if they don't want to prescribe your old one,or something else, then you don't have to take anything else new that muck your periods up.

Get some condoms, can get them free from your local family planning clinic.

Cool, where abouts is that?

My sister in law has this... it's been in her for 3 years now as she was reproducing like a rabbit.

She has always been skinny - but not now!

It obviously works for her - for the purpose it was put in for

I was wanting to ask actually............does anyone know.........do u think it would be ok to take the pill aswel as the implant for a couple of weeks or is it dangerous to take an overdose of it?? This might be another one of my stoooooooooooooopid questions

No I don't think it would be ok. I think both the pill and the implant are measured doses of hormones. If you take both I think it will send your hormones haywire.

Ok, I am going to make another doctors appointment and ask him to let me have another two / three months supply of my old pill, so I can at least go on holiday without having to worry. Then, (if I have no choice) will start the new one when I get back.

I believe the new pill I have been given has the same hormones as the implant and the injection (no estrogen)

just use a barrier method in addition if you're worried babe.. dont drown your body in double hormones x x
