    Do I need XBox Live?

Getting my son a X Box One S for Christmas this year and he wants Plants Vs Zombies. The game box says that XBox live is required.

Possibly a stupid question, but does that mean he won't be able to play the game at all without it?
I wasn't planning on getting Live (yet) as he won't be going online and playing with friends as he's only 6 but will I have to pay out for this so he can actually play the games he wants?
    Thanks in advance

I think Plants Vs Zombies is an online only game so you would need live to play it.

There should be a 14 day trial code in the box so you'll be able to go online to play.

I believe the online is for the leaderboards, coop, and multiplayer,
nearly all games say require Xbox live.
You will get a 14 day gold trial with the console, so wont need to get xbox live gold before hand, but may be required after the trial.

Is the game Plants Vs Zombies or Plants Vs Zombies Garden Warfare?

Garden Warfare is a first person shooter like game that is online only.

Also im sure all the Plants Vs Zombies games come with EA Access so I would return the game and get that instead.

The console will come with 14 days gold for free also if you get it with an EA game like FIFA 17 or BF1 then you will also get ea access free for one month.

Yes you will need one as it will allow him to play with friends. If you look cdkeys.com you might be able to find a 1 yr one for under £32

Hadn't realised there was a difference oO so would he be able to play the normal one without a live account?!

He's only 6 so not really sure I want him playing with his friends just yet. Was hoping the xbox and a few games would be the end of the expense for a little while....

What's the difference between EA access and Live?!?

live allows you to play online, and use other online features.
ea access allows you to play most ea games without buying them but can use on a subscription basis, like a netflix style thing

    Hi,

I dont think you need to spend money to get gold.

Xbox live comes in 2 different mode: Free and GOLD.

As above, free is free and it does not offer any multiplayer and all sorts of other high end functionality. While Gold is paid and will have all.

If you have free you can play the games locally. I think it just needs to connect to live. Free/Gold does not matter really.

And for a 6 year old you are after below game:

    marketplace.xbox.com/en-…9ff

    Cheers

And to answer your question: Yes, you need live but not live gold.
