Do most banks now charge for an in branch bank transfer?

Found 28th Dec 2008
Yesterday wanted to make a payment to someone but when I got down town the local branch of the bank was closed on Saturdays but I realised I had accounts elsewhere so went to Royal Bank Of Scotland and was told its a £20 charge for a bank transfer.

So I went to the Clydesdale and they said £25 unless its to another Clydesdale account as they are trying to make it all telephone or online banking.

Is this true?

just bank online. free to any uk bank.

I'm surprised anyone under 50 feels the need to go to a high street bank for any typical transaction.

Is this a lot of money? Is the money going international?

When you have like 3 accounts at one bank, 2 at another, 2 at another its hard to rememberr the VERY long usernames and long passwords.

I do use telephone banking at one which is free for a bank transfer but I cant use it as they just changed terms so I cant use it till I agree to them arrrgh.

£50 for a UK transaction.

Tip - next time ask them to do it through faster payments, not chaps or TT (Both are chargeable and have no real benefit over Faster Payments), or BACS (which is the traditional 3-5 working day method - now being phased out) as long as your bank and the bank you are sending it to are members of the scheme then it is a FREE service and the money will be in the account within a few hours, although in practice this is more like a few seconds. Don't let banks charge you for transferring money between accounts!

before my online banking was set up i went into my bank and asked them t transfer 25 pounds to someone and they tried to charge me a fee of 26pounds just to do it..needless to say i left without doing the transfer

i don't blame you

For future reference:
1. Withdraw cash.
2. Pay into beneficieries account at their bank.
3. Cost = a walk accross town.

HTH

Ryouga just stop using money. You are not good with it. Buy things using goats or something.Hang up your pound notes along with your online tradings. Seriously.
And don't send me any more abusive pm's.
Muchos gracias

install ROBOFORM which stores and enters the usernames/passwords etc for you. Only 1 MASTER password required.

What is so special about the " under 50's "?

Is there now an age limit on some forms of banking?

all well in theory but if you live in belfast and do a trasaction with someone in england/scotland, chances are that you dont have their bank in town.

That would be one very long walk to deposit the money
