Do you start to lose your sense of humour as you get older...

...or are modern comedies just not that funny? I've tried watching all the latest, and highly acclaimed, comedies but I've just never found them laugh out loud funny. Films like 40 year old virgin, knocked up, the hangover, anything by the mr deeds/little nicky dude, I've seen them all and at best has made me smile but I always end up feeling underwhelmed and often feel they're over hyped. So are modern comedies a bit rubbish or am I turning into a grumpy old man?!

Both.

Go back and watch some of the comedies that you remember being good, I think you'll find that you won't find em that great anymore.
Add that to recent comedy films pretty much all being crap.

Lulz grumpy old man fo sho, granted some new stuff isn't funny but most of the stuff you typed above is

whatsThePoint;8938968

That's mostly because you have seen it before and know whats coming

No it's not, if that were the case then no one would ever watch a film more than once.

Maybe it is me because I don't find modern horrors scary either!

P.s. Do you ever log off numpty?! Or work for that matter!??

There are things made now that are funny, but I agree its not like it was.

Where are the classics like Life of Brian for instance?

Adam Sandler and Jim Carey are about as funny as multiple splinters being forced under all your finger nails one after the other.

definitely latter

I'm 17 and found all the films you listed hilarious tbh!

I for one, find both actors very funny in their comedies!

I don't anymore... There are too many things I need to watch / play / read and I don't have the luxury to watch something more than once.

farts jokes/Sixth Form Humour is not always gonna be funny...............

just watch A Serious Man, that is brilliant............intelligent humour

I take offence ol' chap. I DO work and log off occasionally.........

Actually, I agree with you to some extent. Much recent comedy has, of necessity it seems, had to push the boundaries of acceptability to gain an audience, and quite where it might develop from here is head-scratchingly unpredictable. I am an old fogey I'll admit, a child of the (barely) post-war era, but nonetheless not averse to accessing new material/comedians/films/series. I do laugh (heartily) at a lot of the stuff doing the rounds currently, but quite often this is tempered with a 'cringe' tendency that often confirms that graphic/explicit is less and subtle is definitely more in chuckle stats.

Perhaps that's why I'm a big fan of radio comedy. A medium that deserves a much larger audience than it receives, but which may come back into vogue some day soon.

Yeah, a lot of teenagers that I talk to rave about those films but to me they're funny, just not hilarious like they make them out to be!

Yes and yes. Plus those films you listed are aimed at the teens and I CBA with them - but then I'm just a grumpy old woman so what do I know. They don't make them like they used to. :x

Original Poster

Well put, numptyj old bean! aimed at teenagers eh? That's probably my problem! Then again I also hate allo allo and last of the summer wine, so I'm kinda in limbo.

My 10 and 12 year old like them too. I thinking its probably to do with the difference in humour between Kids and Adults. Are you still into Barney the dinosaur? :w00t:

can't say i do tbh

It all depends on your style of humour I suppose, the Inbetweeners really makes me laugh yet there are probably same aged people who think it's childish and in poor taste.

As above with Monty python I know there are loads of people who just didn't think it was at all funny. Everyone has a different type of humour and yours is obviously not the one like those films.

Maybe the films that you do not think are funny really aren't and some people just say they are to follow the crowd. I admit that it has been a long time since I saw a film that really made me laugh out loud all the way through the film.

you didn't find the hangover laugh out loud funny?..........strange

What age are you?

I didn't... I smirked once or twice but never actually laughed.

Same could be said for you...lol

Misk needs me here so I try and stay in touch as much as I can.

There are amazing devices called mobile phones also and some of them have access to internet as well which allows one to be online quite a lot haha

Likewise, I smiled once or twice but its not all that. A lot of the humor seemed forced, naked chinese guy, mike tyson throwing a punch, tiger in the bathroom, pulling teeth...just wasn't that funny. Id say even old school was funnier. Im early 30s.

It all depends all your type of humour. I find films from the likes of Judd Apatow, Will Ferrell and Adam Sandlers just plainly unfunny yet these type of comedys are the ones that take the most amount of money thus we are seeing more of them.

Then you just have a different sense of humour. I don't find Only fools, Monty python laugh out loud funny, but really enjoyed Hangover, Eastbound and down and a lot of will ferrel output. Would say it was an age thing. However i'm nearly 35.

modern comedies just not that funny

I think comedies like The Mighty Boosh, The IT Crowd, and The Inbetweeners are well written.

Stuff like Young Ones, Blackadder, The Comic Strip will always be classics. When ever Adrian Edmondson & Rik Mayall do live, their gigs are always sold out.

I agree. I think it is one of those programmes you either understand or you do not. A little like "The Young Ones" was in the 1980s (only in reverse with respect of youth versus experience).

I like "The Big Bang Theory" as I think it is cleverly written, but then I also admire the writing in the "Phineas & Ferb" cartoons & some of the situations in "The Suite Life of Zack & Cody" are extremely well scripted... far too good for kids!

BFN,

fp.

Based off your previous threads op i would say neither, you just want to start arguments
