mine works to a degree but for good sat nav on your n95 you need to buy a 32 channel external GPS reciever i have one and when you use this it works like a proper sat nav, hope this helps

do you have to pay to use the GPS SAT NAV?

Takes a few seconds on mine using Google Maps. The GPS antenna is under the keys so keep the keypad out and keep the n95 as close to windows or as high up as possible, and it should work perfectly.

as dxx keep keypad open, also you need to use A-GPS which will allow a faster lock on and better accuracy. This was enabled in one of the firmware updates so you might need to download the Nokia PC suite. Problem is it uses data so an unlimited data tariff is best, usual lock on time from cold for GPS is 1 minute.

I use TomTom on my N95 8GB with the middleware so I can use the internal GPS and it takes a couple of minutes to get a lock on the GPS signal on the dashboard but I rarely have trouble with it after that.

I sometimes use a 32 Channel External GPS bluetooth unit and I get a signal lock in under 15 seconds....

And I did it with the keypad open.

Yeah that is the negative about this phone, flash drives only have something like 9000 read/write life cycle isn't it? For SD card apps you just copy the contents onto the 8GB drive on your phone when it is set in mass memory mode. With regards to improving lock on have you got the latest firmware on your phones?

The internal GPS on the N95 is not so good. It can take a long time to get location and not be that accurate when it does. Google Maps finds your location so quickly because its initially using assisted GPS ie its finding what mobile tower you are currently connected to so it can get an approximate location.
If you want to get a decent GPS unit then I recommend a Bluetooth GPS unit that uses the SiRFstarIII chipset which can take seconds to get a gps location. I've had a Holux (pocketgpsworld.com/gr2…php) and a navman b10 (navman.com/in-…80/) which both use the same chipset and are both excellent.
Another thing to consider is where the GPS antenna is. On the original N95 the antenna is in the bottom of the phone so you have to hold it upside down to get the best results. On the N95 8GB they moved the antenna to the top of the phone.
