Hi guys, just thought i'd bring up a topic of geo-caching. Do any of you guys do it or used to? I did it today whilst on a family day out to moors valley country park in ringwood near southampton. was good fun and a great surprise when you find the hidden object! just wondered if anyone else on here does it and what they think of it?

Similar. basically the one i had today had 5 points to find on the gps, once found you take all the answers to all the clues given for them and get your final place of interest answer and theres a clue for where it is or similar. we found it and it was a box full of little bits and pieces people left in there. There were a few pens, a cd, a 1 dollar bill, a magnet and more inc a booklet with peoples names who found it! its really cool!

But easier.

Me and my mate were on our boat a few weeks ago and saw something hanging from under a bridge, thought it was a druggies' stash, we had a look any way and it was a geo cache. Emailed the guy and he was chuffed we found it, might look for some more next year when the weather gets nicer again

haha sounds cool! what was in there? im gonna look for a nice gps unit. we used my gf's dads one and it was ok but i didnt get on with it very well! its good fun if your bored or want to go looking for something. they come in all shapes and sizes and can be hidden anywhere and sometimes are really difficult to get

It was just a piece of paper and a pencil rolled up in one of those plastic cases you used to have round your neck on holiday to hold your money in

I did download an app for my phone, but couldn't really work it out

u need a proper gps unit really to do it right. ah ok, yeh sometimes thats all it is, and you write down your name and the date you found it. if you do it properly you also go online and make sure its updated so your the latest one to have found it and update the log on it. some of them also require you to take whatever is there if u want it and replace it with something else

Its great when you go on holiday as it takes you off the beaten track to places you would never have known about. My kids love it as well & as the younger one would complain if he had to walk for longer than 10 minutes, its been great & he'll now walk for a couple of hours if there's a geocache along the way. We even found one in the middle of Disneyland Paris though they are meant to be set on public land or be virtual caches as in the one at Stonehenge. Finding them on peaks in the Lake District was also a bit challenging but good fun.

that sounds so cool! i got really excited when i found this one today! was a long old walk cos we got all the clues and answers, went back to the start for lunch then started over again! walked for about 4-5 hours in total lol! was well worth it though!

We go camping a lot so when my daughter gets a little older it's something I'll definitely look into more

its more of an adult based activity!

use Geocaching.com if you want to know more, you can search by post code, or area, which is handy if your going away & want to search the area, use to do it with the kids but they have got older & discovered boys/girls.

I do a little bit. Really good as it encourages a more 'outdoor life'. Was on holiday is an area unfamiliar and wife & self did a geocach neaby. Took us to a lovely beautyspot, told us a bit of history about the place and recommended we visit a nearby castle. Did that and it was fantastic, we had a brill afternoon and the tour guide recommended a lovely place to eat. Made the holiday!
I use an app on on iphone called 'geocaching' a groundspeak project. Gives weekly newsletters, you can download maps & geocaches for when you are in a 'pay data area' which I was in and use a selection of maps & load & follow logs etc.

I also found a geocoin, which is a disc with a purpose. You tale it to a new place and can trak its progress. The one I got started in Alaska, went around America, then to Germany, England, ireland and is currently back in Germany. Many people upload photograps which make it interesting and these can be viewen on computer or iphone.

Its a great pastime!

yeh we do it & other family members have joined the bandwagon. i use my HTC Desire with c:geo app. really good when I can be bothered going out on the hunt!

Me and the family do it do.Brings us to loads of new places.Kids love the swaps;keeps them interested.
