Room is too small for a double and do not want a single, however really hard to find cheaper 4ft double bedding, does anyone use double on a 4ft, and is it a bearable amount of over hang, many thanks (quilt cover)

6 inches wont make much difference....... that's what my mrs keeps telling me anyway.
yep. my daughter has a 4ft bed and just uses double bedding. not a problem.
(and me & the mrs have a double and use King size bedding so we're not fighting for the covers)
Use a single fitted sheet to lie on, it stretches and doesn't crumple up.
We always get duvets one size larger than the bed. In terms of sheets-flat sheets work fine if you fold them with good, tight corners.
I have a friend who buys a double duvet for her single bed - you have no problem at all!
I have a three quarter bed for my teenage son and he uses double. It works fine regards trace
Yep, double used on a 3/4 bed here too
