Does 'International Law' Exist ?

Many countries flout UN resolutions as they please and with the help of a 'veto' are allowed freely to do so .

How can this imbalance where monsters are savaging the less powerful ever be equalled ?

There is an embargo going on which was ignored.

If you are asking if the embargo is in anyway legal, or justified, then that is a totally different question.

"international law" exists yes,but then you need the majority of the un to agree what action to take and they are far more likely to agree to action against "certain" countries than others so its a pretty toothless thing anyways.

And I lol at america condemning countries who dont comply with international law-they are the worst for just doing whatever they like.

Yes International Law exists - well I hope it does cause I studied it last year. Basically though its extremely difficult to do anything effectively when the permament members have a veto which can prevent the Security Council doing anything.

Prime example after America invaded Nicaragua, the SC tried to pass a resolution damning Americas action and setting compensation etc. surprise surprise America veteoed and that was that.

Oh look, it's another 'I hate the Jews' thread.

It does exist but its too difficult to enforce especially when one breaks the law. There have been so many countries breaking the law and nothing seems to be done.

I hadn't realised! :whistling:

I've never seen the OP post that sort of thing before! :w00t:

When all this blew up before I decided to read a bit deeper. I personally feel that we do get quite a lot of rather biased reporting of the palestinian situation and it is not pro-palestinian. However, even with provocation, it is difficult to defend missles or bombs blowing up civillians. Thats where the palestinians let themselves down.
And that is why I feel that there is a lot less condemnation than there should be of some of the israellis actions.

I think that may be a fair point, though it remains to be seen exactly what was on those ships. The Turks seem now to be backing off from their original rumblings.

On the same day, the Israelis attacked more tunnels into Egypt. That followed several Motar Shells being fired on Civillian residences within Isreal the previous day.

Until they stop this crap, the Israelis can and will continue with the hard line approcah they have. Personally, I don't blame them.

faults on both side....UN are investigating....let them get on and negotiate some sort of peace

plenty to worry about much closer to home with our own brave troops being killed by terrorists

This is sort of where I am at the moment on the conflict

Yes, the great 'anti-Semitism' card - its not even funny any more and the usual apologist is here. Only a quarter of the required aid enters Gaza, so what option do they have ?!. Even the flotilla was 5k tons less than what is required. Hopefully Turkiye can actually stamp its presence this time and make the terrorists pay.

I'm not defending what Israel have done, merely pointing out the typical intention behind the thread and it's predictable followers - yourself included.

It's this 'let's start a thread involving Islamic states and see if we can flush out any haters' attitude, if you need me to spell it out for you.

It's not an embargo its a blockade, Embargoes are similar to economic sanctions and are generally considered legal barriers to trade, blockades are generally considered acts of war

Perhaps you need to research the OP's threads on similar topics - and his other cronies on here - then you may get the picture. They will be along the lines of the previous comment I made a few posts up...

Edit: Quite a few of them have been conveniently deleted.

Its irrelevant really as the ships were boarded in international waters miles from the blockade

Interesting link, thanks:

Israel Navy: "Mavi Marmara, you are approaching an area of hostilities which is under a naval blockade. The Gaza area coastal region and Gaza harbor are closed to all maritime traffic. The Israeli government supports delivery of humanitarian supplies to the civilian population in the Gaza Strip and invites you to enter the Ashdod port. Delivery of supplies in accordance with the authorities' regulations will be through the formal land crossings and under your observation, after which you can return to your home ports on the vessels on which you have arrived."

Response: "Negative, negative."

So they weren't stopping humanitarian aid and what did this Floatilla have to hide?

As the Israel expected the ship to be transporting arms.

I guess everything will be clarified in time. However a report I was listening to earlier on the BBC News channel suggested that this all occured in international waters approx 100 miles from any coast. Apparently nowhere within territorial limits.
If that it proved to be true, it does alter things. Regardless of where the boats were headed, they were a LONG way from their destination. Does seem to have been a huge over reaction by the Israellis (that has resulted in deaths in international waters).

They were in international waters, no one owns them therefore technically it was an act of piracy, if they had entered or come near Israeli territorial waters then they would have a case but they didn't, its not a question of what did they have to hide, its whether or not Israel broke international law or not. Also what right do Isreal have to say who can use another countries waters and airspace,

Bad move by the IDF, they should have torpedoed the ship and let snipers pick off any survivors.

You pick on israel and they will fight back and I support that.

Maybe they boarded with hooks for hands and parrots on their shoulders? :w00t:

If as Wooly has said, they were 100 miles from the blockaid, then they have overstepped the mark, I somehow suspect they were far nearer and in any case, they were carry stuff for Gazza and they weren't going to get there. Refusal to go as instructed to unload, spells out to me things aren't quite as the Floatilla is suggesting.

EDIT:

Sorry, just seen your edit. It's a war zone. I think stopping weapons arriving in Terrorist hands is quite a high priority.

where were they going if not israeli waters?

if they(the "activists") did attack them(the "commandos") first then what difference does it make?

Weapons were probably smuggled into gaza before but not on this ship. Now they are just looking for excuses because they know they've messed up.

They were going to Gaza, what did they attack them first with, did they try and shoot the helicopter down with that pathetic looking catapult they showed on the news? Anyway the UN needs to conduct a independent inquiry to find out what actually happened, but it probably won't change anything, and this kind of violence from both sides will carry on.

+! same old story.

I have just listened to a report on Ch 4 news. Point John Snow made was quite worrying. Worth listening to on Ch4 +1 or online. Won't repeat as people might think I am playing sides. This could have big repercussions.
