Ok thannks, the file i have is 4.10gb so wont fit on a normal dvdr, could i stick it on a usb stick and run it from that on the ps3?

thanks

Yeh use mkv2vob first and then dump on ps3. I think 4.10gb should just be under the cut off for fat32 I think the max is about 4.4ish?

Now I'm not entirely sure on this but I think that a usb stick has to be formatted in Fat32 which has a max file size of 4gb.
Besides, why won't a 4.1gb file fit on a 4.7gb dvd?

Stream using 'PS3 media server' and it will transcode mkv files on the fly. Save you having to convert loads of files and save you're hard drive space on the console.

Any media connecting to the PS3 has to be FAT32. This means a limit of 4GB for files. It's a pain and annoying.

You can use MKV2VOB to convert the file (PS3 can read whats in the MKV container file just doesn't understand MKV's) and then stream it with either Windows Media Player/Center Sharing, TVersity or the best bet PS3 Media Server.

PS3 Media Server can Transcode (convert the file on the fly) with subtitles but you will need a relatively beefy machine.

Without that you won't get subtitles unless you convert the MKV with the subs in MKV2VOB and that will take a while.

To be honest I got sick of converting and streaming films so just bought a WDTV HD Live and it does a perfect job over everything I have thrown at it.

i think you can,,,, i copied it onto the hard drive of my ps3 via streaming... i had avatar and it was 1080 but the size was 15 gb

It's 4gb so you would end up with 3.99 gb single file

a 4.10gb file will fit on a dvd which can hold 4.37 / 4.38GB based on 1024mb being a gig and not 1000mb which is how hdd/ dvd media manufacturers designate storage space ..base 10 and 2
