If your employer decided to change your hours after they employed you. "Yes".

madness! can just imagine others doing this now tho..

Ah winds me up reading this , yet another reason it was best to being men only in the Army...best of it looks like she couldnt run more then a few yards

Want it all these days when they dont get it they all want compo.

I bruised all my legs and done them in for weeks due to equipment being left out which i stupidly tripped over , but i laughed it off , dont go running off crying for compo.

Knew what the score was when she Joined , now she wants £100,000 ..... she is a disgrace to the Army , they are better of without her

What a stupid case, when you join the army or any of the armed forces you are told that you should be available for duty 365 days a year 24hrs a day, sucky I know but your told this.
On the hours she was given how can she be expected to deploy, go on excercise etc, also means no guard duties etc.

If she couldn't do what she was asked to do she should of had to leave the army.
I knew single parents when I was in the army and they got no treatment like this, they would have to leave kids with relatives for long periods of time.
On the other side of the coin I do feel it unfair that she was not allowed to bring a relative to look after the kid.

simple fix - ban all women from the forces.

    cant have it both ways!

Judging from its source, I would read with caution.

Regarding the title of this thread. I would imagine in most cases in the country, if your child was ill, you would be allowed to take the time off with them.

It doesn't seem to be racial in the traditional context. Seems to be an immigration issue. It would be racial if they allowed white family members from other countries to come and live with serving family but not black.

She probably thought her sister could come over be given UK citizenship, full benefits claim, house payed for by the goverment all so she could become a part time babysitter.

Any sexism in this case will be from her as the army would have had the same stance if it was a single father. Same with the racism, the country shouldn't have to change immigration rules just because she can't keep her legs closed while in the army.

LOL - well done for saying what I was thinking. £100K is cheaper really in the long run. Lets hope she now gets deported.

I read it that they told her anything to placate her before signing up.
If they gave her a set period that these relaxed hours were to be followed, I believe the "Daily Mail" would have put it in their report.

    Of course she does somewhere,

    Now if only the mom knew who it was. . . . . . . . . . .

I was actually amazed that imigration refused someone entry, did'nt think they did that anymore?

I thought the main point of the army was to recruit people so that we can go to war if needed, defend queen and country. Not say, sorry cant go and fight my battles that you're paying me for because i havent got any childcare. Childcare should be thought about before getting a job, whatever that job is.

It should be noted that she is was employed as a Foreign and Commonwealth soldier working for the British Army, and then placed in the UK, from the Caribbean where SHE had organised childcare, which is what makes this case unique.

As a female who served in the forces 20 years ago...i wish they would go back to the rules then, however harsh they seem and not very PC.
At that stage if you had a child you had to leave, you understood that when you signed up.
A single parent is not capable of deploying at short notice if she needs to. I have to say this would also be the same for a single father who is raising a child alone.
I do not want women like this to be potentially the security of this country. She may be a very nice woman but her priority is to her child. As a mum i fully understand that but that leaves her not capable of serving as a full service women in our armed forces.
The sad truth is there are enough young women without kids or men who could and should fill her job.
The bottom line is as a women we cant always once we have a family have everything we want. Our priority is to our children. We choose to have them.
    This is not against the woman personally because quite rightly as someone said where is the dad but it is against the system that even thinks it possible for her to do her job effectively;

Now she wants £500,000 , probably wants it for plastic surgery and for a tummy tuck & then fly all her family over via first class to come claim some benefits
