dog arthritis help

11
Found 24th Jul 2013
Morning all, my labrador like most larger dogs is having arthritis problems in her back legs for the last year steadily getting worse. Most people seem to agree that glucosamine, msn and chondrotin tablets will help relieve some of the symptoms. Problem is there are so many options from human healthshop versions that work to specialist dog ones. So does anyone already give their dog something similar? If so what is it called and where do you buy it ?
Thanks

I give my Yorkies Joint Aid for Dogs by GWF Nutrition. It's not the cheapest but has made a massive difference to their joints. It comes in granules and you can either feed it to them as it is or mix it into their food. I get it usually from Amazon but it's available from a lot of online pet shops too. Also try giving your pooch some cod liver oil. It's rank but they'll probably love it!

Here's a link to the one I get. You can get bigger sizes too but I would advise to get the 500g to see how she goes before spending a fortune.

Thank you for the link, i ll have a look into it more.
How long would you say the 500 g lasts for roughly, if you used it for a large dog?
I have 2 Yorkies who have a quarter scoop each a day. I've just checked the dosage on the back of the pack and it says large dogs have 1-2 scoops a day. It will last you about a month or just over I reckon as it lasts roughly 2-3 months for my two.
I was using Flex sprinkle which is very good, but now I buy green lip muscle capsules from Holland and Barrett and open them up and sprinkle that on my dogs food.
My grandparents used to give deer velvet tablets to their dog, they also used the same tablets themselves to help with arthritis, and circulation.

They used to buy these Silberhorn

I agree - green lipped mussel tablets are the best thing for any animal with joint problems IMO. Just buy adult tablets and give one to your dog every day.
I gave my goldie the Pedigree joint care sticks but they made him sick, so we changed to human glucosamine and chondrotin, from Healthspan and he was fine with those - didn't need any more anti-inflammatories from the vet.
Thank you all for your feedback, Probably gonna go with the green lipped mussels for now in terms of ease of getting ahold of them, do you use the 500 mg versions or 250 mg?

My dog has quite a sensitive stomache so may have to just keep moving through until i find something that agrees with her.
