    Dont call me beautiful

    Banned
Another driver at my work has been disciplined for calling one of the female employees that meet us in the morning to recieve the store deliveries, 'beautiful'

In her statement she wrote that he said to her....'morning beautiful',....which she took as an sexual innuendo.

Apparantly now this is deemed as sexual harrasment. I live in Yorkshire and the common term used by men for women here is 'love', or 'darlin' where I came from down south. I have to say, some women really need to get over themselves.

    lol-now thats really stupid!

    thats pretty ****....ALTHOUGH...

without knowing all the in's and out's we shouldnt judge.....the guy could have been feeling her up for the past 6 months, against her will !!!!!

I think that commenting on a person's looks unless they are a good friend can be construed as being over-familiar but not necessarily a sexual innuendo.
    .

One of the catering team in my old job got cautioned (by the police) after he was heard to say What can I get for you my luvver? to a female customer. He was suspended from his post for a couple of weeks after she made a formal complaint. WTF ?

The fact that its a Bristolian saying and harmless, the silly bint should have been grateful. A lot of us say it. Made us all mad so we wrote angry letters to the head of catering.

Duh, she's just trying to get some money!!

the world has gone bonkers imo

These stories wind me up - the moment you worry is when no-one calls you beautiful!

I get called affectionate cute names all the time by the girls or ladies I know - I like it and can see no possble harm in it - though it's hard to really know the ins and outs of this specific case - without specific or actual knowledge, nor the tone of voice used.

All nonsense really, our great grandparents fought through world wars for this carp?

I call everyone hun........apologise to those who I've offended/led on etc etc

also true, context is everything. The case is being reported from the man's perspective here...

Not necessarily, but it can be. I've seen lots of laddish behaviour that is clearly sexual and directed against women in a way that obviously makes them feel uncomfortable, and if it does, it's wrong. I'm guessing that this woman made it clear to this man on a number of previous occasions that she wasn't comfortable with his behaviour, and if she did and he didn't stop, then he overstepped the mark. Some people simply have to learn that sexist behaviour isn't tolerated as much as it once was

You may laugh, but the cartoon is poking as much fun at theists as the so-called pc brigade. In fact, 'magic baby' just about sums up all this silly christian hocus pocus!

That's what is great about regions of our country - that we have particular "sayings" or how we call people. God forbid if we can't call each other "alright my luvver" or "mate" or "hello treacle" - There is no malice in it - its being friendly for God's sake! As for "beautiful" - what a lovely thing to call someone - it would make my day!!

Shocking how, women think that just cos a bloke is being friendly, they are trying to get into their knickers........but then I suppose some women would feel that way.

    Foosball Chum;3165546

 Just to say - I wouldn't usually call a stranger 'beautiful' - without her being a friend of a friend or something. Maybe 'love' if I was feeling real cheeky n' confident lol

Still too much pc nonsense by the sounds of it.

It comes to something when a man/woman is made to feel like some sort of criminal for trying to make an otherwise ****** world happier by giving someone a lighthearted cheery greeting. I'm from up North, not that that should have anything to do with it, but it's lovely to hear someone say hello pet, darling. love, whateva? If you're gonna get you're knickers in a twist over something so innocent you really need to loosen up a bit!:-D

See it from another perspective: look at what you've written above. Your words betray your attitude towards women, attitudes which might be perceived as worthy of the term 'shocking'...

Or don't see it from this other perspective. All I can do is lead the horse to the water...

Why would you want to call a woman a dog? :? Again, the irony here is that of course you are unlikely to see this story from the woman's perspective - how could you if you can say things like this..? Sorry to be a bore, but someone's gotta be on these important issues

Seems pretty clear to me - the only thing I left out was "...but you can't make it drink"

I would like to think that anybody calling out "hey beautiful" was trying to make me feel good ( so long as there was no prior unwanted cat calling/persistent embarrassment comments). We should learn to moderate our speech if it is offensive, but don't cut our language up any more or cut out "humourisms" or " regionalisms" because then we aren' t a unique culture anymore.

evening ppl good job she doesnt work at the same place as me she.d be putting a complaint in ever 5 mins not many ppl get called by their correct names it just goes with the job its abit of fun :-D
