Don't forget to apply for marriage tax allowance before the end of March...

Just a reminder... if you or your partner earns less than £11,000 and the other below £43,000, you could be eligible for this.

They backdate it to the previous financial year too (provided you were married for that full year) - so you've only got a couple of weeks left to apply to benefit from last year's allowance. Your tax code will also be updated for the current financial year - so if eligible that's potentially two tax rebates you are entitled to, and then going forward you'll pay a little less each month.

Find out more info and apply here. Note that it is the lower earner that needs to apply for this, and you'll need both of your National Insurance numbers, and a means for them to identify you (payslip, P60, P45, passport or child benefit bank account info).

I applied yesterday, my tax code has already been updated to reflect - you can check yours here

If your code contains the letter 'M', you've already had the allowance applied.

Hope this helps some of you

    Who can apply
You can get Marriage Allowance if all the following apply:

you’re married or in a civil partnership
you don’t earn anything or your income is under £11,000
your partner’s income is between £11,001 and £43,000
You can still apply for Marriage Allowance if you or your partner:

    are currently receiving a pension
live abroad - as long as you get a Personal Allowance.
If you or your partner were born before 6 April 1935, you might benefit more as a couple by applying for Married Couple’s Allowance instead.

So yea... works fine if just one of you works - provided the other earns less than £43k.

Just a heads up to those that apply : you do not get any confirmation … Just a heads up to those that apply : you do not get any confirmation email of your application received and being processed, just check your tax code at a later date to make sure the allowance has been updated.

I got a confirmation email yesterday when I applied to state it would be processed. The website also said I'd get a further email within 24hrs that it had been actioned, but I didn't get that. Just checked my code today and it had changed.

Thanks for that, I applied last year, perhaps the powers that be have finally got their act together.
Acknowledgement Confirmations should always be automatically produced.
(I'll try a and delete my post)

Do you need to apply for this every year?

Never mind it says you just need to apply once not every year.

checked last year we are over the cut off by a few quid.....typical (_;)

Just check your tax code. If it's not been done, apply again.

Already had my rebate in my pay.

oh I applied a couple of months ago after seeing it on here but haven't heard a peep from them. Will check payslip I guess?

just checked and mine doesn't end with an M but worse than that I have just seen how long I have to wait until I can retire with a State Pension....
