Me and the mrs are moving next week and the whole house is double glazed apart from the front door (dunno why).

How much should I pay for a double glazed front door??

Help appreciated.

700-1000 for a decent one. I'd use a reputable company if I were you.
Maybe the front door is solid and well insulated. Do you need to change it?

No its and old wooden door with gaps all over the place.

Thats about right actually, it depends alot on style and glass choice. I take it you've never bought a front door before.

landlord paid £300 for ours and its a piece of sh*t, would def reccomend spending a few quid more, make sure you get a decent fitter too and that they qoute you for making good, our builder wanted to leave us with bare brick showing, as not quoted to make good.

Yeah sorry meant 5 point lock.

No I haven't, and if thats what it costs then the old one will be staying for a while.

My front door has glass all around it and a window over the top as well, with bevelled stain glass and it cost £1000

Oh yes a five point lock is a must as the pvu doors can be opened easily by theives if the 5 pont lock is not on

you could save a lot of money by buying the door yourself and getting a carpenter to fit it.places like wickes do a good range of pre-hung doors from £300ish and a good carpenter should only charge you about £100. i've been in the building trade for 25 years and know double glazing companys make a killing on things like this

exactly what I was going to say.

its nots difficult to fit either for someone with ok diy experience.

Got a solid double glazed front door fitted for 220 quid at our house when we were getting the windows done , solid build quality.
£1000 thats insane for a front door.

i agree, didnt pay much for mine, and its a pile of crap too, although going expensive doesnt mean you will get better, making sure you go with someone who has a good reputation will, speak to people, ask around, word of mouth usually means far more than advert in the local rag

The cowboy outfits around us are the ones ripping people off with your standard of product, by the way you cannot diy fit doors or windows anymore without building regs, why not post some spec of your bargain door to give us a laugh (I mean gearing, hinges, glass unit spec )

I would fit a rehau door for around £450, this is a good quality door, measured and fitted correctly  No probs

I would say £400 for the door and fitted is what I paid. Unless your making the door yourself which I doubt building regulations hasn't got much to do with it, more to do with windows.
