    Dreambox 500c just £89.99 + postage!

    Hi,

I came across this and I'm not sure if it's safe to buy from them, but I'm keen to buy a Dreambox 500c and the price is the cheapest that I've seen.

They haven't put their address details on the website but a whois search reveal a London address.

Anyone had any dealings with them?
    Is it safe to buy?

I'm tempted to say its genuine because its a nice site, But on the Whois search, It shows the registrar as "Softwarebargins" and I can't find any info on this company!

sorry if im thick what does the dreambox 500c do?

sorry if im think what does the dreambox 500c do?

It records your dreams while you sleep

It looks like a DBox or Starview type thing, is it?
If so, I don't think it's wise to mention it on HUKD.

if i had to guess id say its a clone. and dinostevus is correct about what it is.

OK, seen as this is back it must be OK to mention what these do. Once you update the software, you can watch all Cable Channels for free, if you have a live cable feed into your house. That's all the Movies, Sports and Porn for nowt. This is theft from the Cable Company, of course.

    MMMMMMMMMMM!!!

can this be discussed how to do it here or is it too extreme?!!?:-D

Thanks to the Mods for allowing this to be posted, the purpose of this was to find out from fellow forum members if they have had any dealings with this company and how secure would it be to purchase one of these via them?

They offer paypal so would that be safe enough?

    Thanks,

You may have Paypals buyer protection on it's own but it's nothing like an ebay/paypal protection. Being under £100 your credit card company may refuse to help if it does not turn up, some will only get involved if it's over £100.
To be honest, if you want something to watch free TV via Cable, as I mentioned above, you might like to have a look on ebay. You should be able to get the equivalent for around £80. Don't go for the Starview Box, most of them are fakes, the Starview2 (The Box) is very good, as is the DBox. These are just my opinions.

i wouldnt but u seem intent on putting this thread up every so often

    You wouldn't what?:? :? :? :?

    edit:-
Ohhh, you mean you wouldn't buy from that company?
I think this thread was removed for about three hours, it's only just been put back.

A dreambox 500c is designed for cable while a dreambox 500s is designed for satellite, you shouldn't get them mixed up.

For around £109 you can get a technomate 9100 which is pretty much a dreambox 7020 (satellite), it can take a hard drive (at least 300gb) and has two scarts and can read a fair number of different memory cards.

If you intended to purchase a cable decoder then please ignore this.

im very interested in this, since my freeview sparked (literally).
do you have to have a sky dish or can it just be plugged into a AV socket which goes to a normal ariel (like freeview)

    Hi,

I've just spoken to the bloke who's put his mobile number on the website. Seemed friendly enough and mentioned they were based in Belfast.

Said that they are safe to buy from and that's why they have google checkout and paypal available. He also stated the box was a clone and if you want one which isn't then you would have to pay £120+. But there were no real differences between a clone and one which isn't.

Checked on ebay and on buyitnow there appear to be more expensive so this seems to be the cheapest option to purchase a cable one...in two minds whether to go for it or not primarly because I dont want to lose the money and not be covered for it, perhaps it would be a good idea to contact my credit card - Egg Mastercard and see if I'm covered if its under £100?

    Thanks,
    G

Anyone thinking of buying one and wondering how to go about setting it up, PM me and I'll give you the link that helped me get my head around them.

Cable: If you can, you should (hack it).

its not that hard to set up either ftp the image across then use telnet or use flash wizard. i use the ftp method. then its just a case of transferring you services.xml file across, again done with ftp. then only thing i would be abit cautious about is that he is not a official dream reseller so theres a good chance that his could be clones. dream reseller offer 12 months warranty where as he is only offering 7 days. i know the dreambox is new but look how many problems people had with dboxes.

@ add-man you need a live cable feed in order to use this to watch cable.

Whats the liekly hood of getting caught by using the Starviewbox to view all the channels for free using the Virgin Meida cable wire?

Pretty slim in you have a contract with Virgin I should think.

I think this model needs an upgrade.
Some boxes are just scan and play such as the DBox and the Starview2 (The Box).

wouldnt call the dbox plug and play, but the starview, eurovox, ect are. i wouldnt say its a long winded technical job but its not the easiest thing to set up. if you know how to use ftp and just follow some instructions then you can have it all set up in under an hour.

@bod emrys you wont pick up much with a sky dish, most of the people use motorised dishes and you have to update keys frequently.

The DBox scans the same way as a Starview box, what's not easy about setting it up? :? :? :?

it doesnt scan the same way. the dbox and dreambox both need an image to be installed. with the dbox you often have to fiddle around with uboot codes, different cams, and play around with different images to make sure you get a stable pic.

with the starview, ect. all you have to do is flash the firmware and scan. no need to play around with anything else.

I'm with you. You can buy them cheap enough with an 'image' so all you do is scan. I think it's Linux, is it? I'm not sure.

yep the dbox runs linux, wouldnt touch a dbox now though. dreambox is much nicer and much more stable.

The new Starbox is nice and slim compared to the DBox, isn't the dreambox the same size as the DBox? Does it auto-update when the 'codes' are changed?

the dreambox is tiny, about the size of a video tape. its the smallest reciever that we can use. the dreambox also runs linux and it does auto update the keys.

That's what I meant, Keys not codes.
You said "we", who are we?
How much are these going for because you can pick up a Starview2 for around £85, inc P&P from ebay. They are meant to be very reliable and easy to scan. According to a few forums the Starview2 is better than the DBox, but I've not seen much mention of the Dreambox.

when i say we i mean us who use the boxes for what we want them to do. i got my dream for £75 from china. starview doesnt have proper 16:9. the dreambox is also much more advanced then any other receiver. i have mine connected to my network so i can record tv on to a nas, stream mp3s, divx, ect to it. it also has a nice web interface. also used to stream it to xbmc before i got a 360.

with the starview you are limited to five favourite groups, with the dreambox you can have loads of bouquets.

    That was a good price.
I might look into the Dreambox tomorrow.
    Cheers.

What would i be best of getting for a satellite connection (sky)?
Is there one with a hard drive (are these much more expensive)?

    Thanks in advance

for the starview 2 would that need frequent key updates?

hi at the moment sky hasnt been hacked, you could get foreign sat. theres quite alot of english stuff on there. the starview is meant to auto update. the dreambox is quicker and once set up doesnt require new firmwares to be updated unlike the starview.

you can put a hdd in the 7025 or 600, and they are more expensive.

    nice info

so u recommend the dreambox over the starview?

but u said satrview is plu and play whereas dreambox isnt

i personally would reccomend the dreambox over any other cable reciever, apart from the 7025 or reel. only as they are expensive. if you get the starview all ready flashed then yes it just a case of connecting it up and scanning.

if you go for the dreambox with NO image installed then you will need to transfer an image and do a scan. when i first got my dreambox i diddnt have a clue what to do. followed a few steps and had it set up with in half an hour.

like i said above i use it for streaming and recording know, once its all set up you wont need to touch it again, and if you can follow instructions you should have it set up with in an hour max.

    Hi,

Does anyone know if paypal will cover me if I went ahead and bought from dreamboxmagic and it never arrives?

    Thanks,
    G

I brought the starview for £150, its a geniune box (i counted the vents) but it does not have a hard drive or anything like that. Is this worth it or have I been ripped off?

it depends if its the new starview or not, but £150 is way too much to pay for them. you can get an original 500-c for £130 with 12 months warranty and they do much more.

That's way too much. You can buy one with a Hard Drive for that price.
