yes you can do courier work on your licence, have a look at the codes on your licence and see what it entitles you to drive,if you want to use your own car then i cant see a problem, have a hunt on fish 4 jobs or somewhere like that and see whats in your area

Driving agencies are the scum of the earth, but unfortunately if you want work, they are a necessary evil

Always worth registering with them at least you'll be working straight away.

When did you pass your test as you may be able to drive a 7.5t delivery van. In order to drive larger vehicles you will need to take your HGV tests C (class 2) and C+E (Class1) and you will see you hourly rate increase as you pass the tests.

If you just want experience of the work, register with the agency and ask if they have any drivers mates jobs going. Basically you get paid for sleeping in the passenger seat, whilst the qualified driver does all the hard work. Then when you get to the destination you help offload the goods.

I looked on the internet for a driver agency but could only find a suite - so im creating a CV to uplaod with them.

catalogue companys use home delivery service and these are usually self employed driver (get paid for how many packages etc.) you should register with them as xmas deliverys tend to start from end aug /sept - no kidding tescos will have xmas stuff on shelves in aug

yellow pages advertise for delivery drivers too

parcelnet delivery the next, lakeland, several catalogues, the book people etc

    good luck

Where about are you, I'll find plenty for you

I posted a thread on this a few weeks ago as I'm interested in driving work also.

How easy is it to become registered self-employed (or whatever the term is), I don't even know where to start (just finished my studies).

What kind of pay am I looking at - would it be consistant enough for me to live on, or would it vary too much depending on time of year / contracts etc?

@ Last poster, if you could recommend some for me too that'd be fantastic. I'm West Kent.

Rep gonna go to everyone who's helping us wannabe driving professionals!

Nah, I doubt I could do HGV right now as I'm under 25 and no companies insurance policies would cover me. Self-employed is an option, else there are companies that have 21 limits which would work for me.

Spoke like a hardened Agency driver :giggle:

all the big schools will just shaft you, Red, BSM and AA

You don't NEED to go on a driving course to be an instructor, you can get all the material and learn yourself.

Yup, good advice here, you can teach friends and family if you've got a few years experience, this is valuable as it can tell you if you're ready to become a Driving Instructor, but if you hit your friends while teaching them then i'd say go on anger management courses first

IMHO I disagree. That's like saying, "you don't need to go on a course to learn to be an electrician,as long as you've been farting about with electricity for a while and can put up a light". There is a BIG difference from being able to do something, and being qualified to do something
