Driving tip for Glasgow South-Side: Newlands Road/ Clarkston Road

For drivers who travel along Newlands Road past Weirs Pump, then arrive on Clarkston Road, you should know that there's an excellent and rarely-used short cut - because at peak hours, there's often a very long wait before you get onto Clarkston Road.

As you approach Weirs, there's a right turn that goes up a hill and comes out at the pedestrian crossing just before the junction at Clarkston Road. If, when you approach Wiers there's no traffic, the junction is probably clear. If, like today at 5pm, there's a queue going all the way back to Weirs, take the right-hander and you'll be on Clarkston Road in a minute, rather that 5 or 10 minutes if you stay on Newlands Road.
