iTunes Plus is the new standard on iTunes.

Now, you can choose from millions of iTunes Plus songs from all four major music labels and thousands of independents. With iTunes Plus you get high-quality, 256-Kbps AAC encoding. All free of burn limits and digital rights management (DRM). So iTunes Plus music will play on iPod, Apple TV, all Mac and Windows computers, and many other digital music players. It’s also easy to upgrade your iTunes library to iTunes Plus. You don’t have to buy the song or album again. Just pay the 20p per song upgrade price. (Music video upgrades are 40p and entire albums can be upgraded for 25 percent of the album price.)

wow how long has it taken for that to happen.......took a bit of competition to prompt em tho didnt it

thats why ill never ever ever buy an ipod well along with the ****** sound quality

lol and this is good why?
aac means still useless on other mp3 players.
And lol at the 20p upgrade price. Its just another trick for apple to get more money from punters.

I know what you mean, this 'change' isn't going to prompt me to start buying songs on iTunes.
I think it's a bit of a con how it's only the songs from iTunes Plus as well, why not all the songs be DRM-free like the rest of the stores selling music?
I'm still going to go elsewhere for my music.
I saw this news in my RSS feed and thought it could be of use to some members.

Isn't it easy enough to pay cheaper download price, burn on a cheap cd and upload cd into windows media?

mp3 players easy to use, ipods requires too much hassle (itunes) for something which is only looks good rather than actually works well.

Why use iTunes for 10mins when i can drag n drop my music straight on in 30secs??? lame

itunes works fine, 8.0.1 is a good piece of software imo esp if you have a large library and need decent organisation, if you don't want album art use something else (but not wmp) i find the cross-referencing on itunes indespensible for listening and organising my music although i wouldn't buy from the itunes store when i can get much of the same music from amazon cheaper

still slow, FACT unless you wanna convert 300gb of music to aac, increasing it to 600gb for the sake of an iPod...............oh yeah and try putting your music on another device from your Ipod without iTunes.........mp3 players takes seconds

lol, still quicker without having to use iTunes that is the FACT lol

i wouldn't convert my music collection to aac without keeping my orig mp3s, hence the effective double up

the itunes store i agree, poor value for money

itunes itself is free, so not a rip-off in that sense

you'd need the original CDs to convert to lossless or downloaded from somewhere in aac - mp3 is lossy so you couldn't get the missing data by converting, and itunes/ipod copes with mp3 fine

they've supported mp3 since Oct 2001 when the first gen came out: everymac.com/sys…tml

maybe the files you coverted where in a strange format back then, the older ipods where a bit fussier

When the first iPod came out it didn't even support acc's...
Only: MP3 (up to 320 Kbps), MP3 Variable Bit Rate (VBR), WAV, AIFF

A firmware update was released after not too long.
I remember thinking that 5GB was a lot... I've now nearly outgrown my 80GB!
