Duty and vat charges for ordering goods from abroad.

Found 23rd Apr 2008
Hi. I'm looking to purchase some trainers, clothes etc from ebay USA, Amazon.com I realise if I go over £18.00 I'll have to pay duty, but does anyone know what percentage I'd have to fork out?

Zak.

It's worked out as follows.

1: Take the value of the goods plus P&P.
2: Add on the duty (for clothes this is 12%)
3: Then add on VAT at 17.5%
4: Plus a handling charge of between £8 and £16 (usually) depending on how it is shipped.
