    E71 Nokia guarantees/warranties - a wash out

I have had my Nokia E71 for a year and a bit.
It's been a good phone thus far.
The Camera stopped working so I took it to my local Nokia Agent. He tried a new Camera card/bit but it didn't work. He said it had to go back to Nokia for a 'major' repair.
Two weeks later he called me to come and collect 'unfixed'. phone. He told me that Nokia had refused to fix it as it had water damage. He showed me a giant enlargement photo fom NOKIA with an arrow pointing at a tiny blackish discolouration nest to a small component.
This mark being roughly the size or half an ant - barely discernable with the naked eye.
The phone has never been near water in it's life and I have always taken care of it????
The local Agent said he had not seen a similar case before and thought it ridiculous.
SInce then I have spoken to a number of people all having had similar warranty problems with Nokia claiming water damage.
Has anybody else had similar problems?
Any polite suggestions/advice on getting Nokia to be reasonable and meet their commitment as it looks like a let out for them.
One thing is for sure NO MORE NOKIAS FOR ME.

If you have left it near or on a window ledge then condensation could have got it and caused this. It doesnt take much at all.

Yes they always claim water damage if it means they have to replace the phone. Mine was from leaving it in my pocket when out biking, got sweat in side and left large white sweat stains inside it  but still pretty ridiculous, they are made to go in your pocket.

i thought nowadays there was a sticker within the phone that changes colour when the phone gets wet so they can tell straight away if that is the problem

I am experiencing the same problem with the above. Phone acquired under contract from 3G and malfunctioned after about a month. Returned it and the repair company allege it was water damaged when it has not been in contact with water. They refuse to replace it as allege a breach of warranty. Is this a common problem? Currently suing 3G for replacement/refund etc in Small Claims Court.

Unfortunately it's not just Nokia who are at this, Apple have chosen poor positions for their moisture sensors and SE also seem to turn down repairs due to a moisture sensor being triggered. It's about time someone challenged this as it's absurd that they can refuse a repair on the basis of a moisture sensor when there's no actual water damage - I've seen even known firmware issues being declined because of apparent 'water damage'.

They should be forced to make them water tight if they really are that flimsy.

Well, they're not that flimsy at all as there is no water damage however by having an overly sensitive and entirely authorative moisture sensor it gives them a cop out for repairs. Apple don't even fit the moisture sensors entirely instead they're exposed externally.
