    ear piercing at claires accessories

I was planning on getting my 9 year old daughters ears pierced after school today and was going to go to claires i stumbled across a forum whilst looking for prices and they are all saying don't go to claires as they are not experienced enough and people have had trouble with their piercings after going there just wondered if any ones been or had problems with them or should i find a jewellers to go to if so any suggested jewellers. thanks

top tip DIY and save some cash

    not helpful but funny

I remember when i had mine done at a Chemist when i was about 11,i nearly fainted after they did one ear, they had to wait a while before doing the other one:oops:

Is possible, go somewhere that they will do both ears at once.

I had mine done at Claires about 10 years ago, did one ear and I was refusing to let them do the other one, said I would just take the first one out! They did the other one though.

Didnt believe me when I told them I was going to be sick, proved them wrong though, was sick all over the girl who did it and the shop, they had to take me downstairs to the staff toilet!

Your stories worse than mine lol

we took our daughter to claires accesories in the white rose last year and they were brilliant, they did both ears together and our 6 year old daughter didn't even flinch

I had the top of my ear done there a few years ago and they were great

My 8 year old had her ears pierced at Claires, we didn't experience any problems and the staff there were very helpful and really explained about the aftercare. Thay also insisted on booking a follow up appointment to check everything was ok.

The cleanliness and preparation was really good.

I don't think it is necessarily a problem with Claire's lets face it you could get an unexperienced undersupervised 'piercer' anywhere.

I would trust your instincts, go in to the store have a look around and ask questions before you atke your daughter there to avoid any disappointments. Any store would not mind being asked questions. If you are unhappy or it doesn't look spotless or something doesn't feel right dont go.

If you do go ahead, wherever you go you must make sure you follow the aftercare instructions and keep the area clean - it is an open wound afterall!

i got my 2 eldest daughters ears pierced in a beauty salon, personally i wouldnt get it done at claires i have heard of people getting infections etc from there.

daughter and niece both had done at claires, having both ears done at same time was an option but only if they had enough staff which they didnt, both girls have now have taken out earrings, daughters went funny and had loads of probs

my little girl, is 1 and she had her ears pierced @ claires same as my 2 nieces did when they were little

the girls who did were fab and very helpful they did both ears together and you can choose whether you want steel, gold silver etc earrings

you can get infections from having your ears pierced from anywhere, i went to the bluewater one if thats close to you xxx

could i ask why you did it, without offending?

Dunno about England, but up here all places that do piercings etc are required to be licensed and must adhere to the condtions etc - regards to cleanliness etc. I do however remember that Claire's are one particular company that were against them having to be licensed - they fought it and lost.

Does make you question why they'd want to fight being licensed...

i never had mine done till i was about 15 and i was terrified, i always wished that my mum had it done when i was younger

i dont see my daughter as a doll, she is very special to me, she means more to me then anything in the world. We waited a long a time for her

im shocked, totally gobsmacked that some people do this to their children, yet sit in the doctors crying over their kid having their jabs, my daughter asked from the age of about 6 to have hers done, think she was 9 when i gave in, shes wanted her belly button doing since she was 14 and said she could when she was 16, she was 16 three months ago and hasn't mentioned since, i was terrified having my bully button done as a grown women, when do you think i should have said yes to her? 1? 5? 10?

Have to say I don't agree with babies getting their ears pierced either - no offence ILP.

We have to make all kinds of decisions for our kids on dress, hair etc, but puncturing their skin etc should be something they need to informed about and make their own decision on.

To me, getting babies ears pierced is child abuse and should be banned. It is cruelty in the extreme. To put your child through unneccessary pain in the name of vanity is abuse.

wow strong words so me getting my daughters ears pierced is the same as beating her senseless

I also boycott Claire's accesories because I have seen them piercing babies ears. Disgraceful in my opinion. Why anybody would want to mutilate their perfect babies body is beyond me.

I bet your baby wasn't laughing.

I have no issue with adults and teenagers getting piercings as they can make an informed choice. Babies do not have this option. Imagine what it must be like for them sitting there not knowing what is coming next.
