OK, another noob Q... how can i check their address is confirmed?

(Repped btw )

As above, Keep postage receipt very safe and youl be fine.

It will tell you if the adress is confirmed when you go to postage details in ebay

Repped again, thanks.

Yet another Q though... How much of a cut does PP take if i transfer the cash to my bank account?

Cheers

no fees for transfer

Banned

None, only fees for receiving cash into you paypal account from a sale

i transfer the paypal money to my bank as soon as its payed by the buyer then wait a few days before sending the phone...

it could be around a fiver for your £200 sale...

PP wont charge you for transferring money to PP to your bank account.

PP charges you when someone pays into your PP account.

Ah a fiver aint so bad. What are paypal like with disputes? I will be posting via a trackable method...

Thankgs again to all, repped.

As prev mentioned by others-
1. Make sure the payment has been accepted your end then transfer it by Paypal quick transfer takes 24-48 hrs and will cost you £5.
2.Send the phone Special delivery - will weigh under a kilo so around £6.50- as soon as you have cleared funds.
I doubt if your buyers a scammer ...but with fleabay...who knows.:-D

m not tryin to scare you mate... however paypal has the power to reverse payments if anything goes wrong.. infact i would advice you to speak with ebay customer support on 020 8080 2105. (P.S. please be near your computer when you do so it will ask you for a pin which is easily obtainable if you follow the directions over the phone) discuss your query with the CS and reconfirm if they have documented the same.
and you would need to post the item soon as you recieve the payments as it could hamper your ebay feedback..
please let me know if you need any more info.
kind regards,
Ameet

Make sure it's a signed for delivery

Signed/tracked delivery is all well and good but people arent factoring for the old chestnut that is "unauthorised transaction" ie claiming that their account had been compromised and it wasnt them, scammers love this one, verified means jack for the address as it can be done other ways, certain prepaid debit cards allow verification, scammers who do this can always find access to an empty property or one where the owners are away for a while, they dont even neeed to be inside, just outside and "working" on their car when the postie arrives.

As its a phone RECORD THE IMEI NUMBER and keep it safe for at least 6 months, this way if they do a claim you can at least have the knowledge they have scammed you for £200 and a brick rather than £200 and a phone.

Alternatively just send them a brick in the phone box to start with :whistling:

Yeah ok, im with you, i'll send them a brick

Seriously though, i will keep the IMEI number...

Surely if the scammers had done this, i would still be covered? After all, its paypals fault if they didnt do the proper checks...

Can anyone link me to the relevant part in their terms that covers this?

Cheers

Crap, now im having second thoughts...
I suppose the only safe thing to do is request payment via BT?

Oh gawd.

Waits for "Help, paypal reversed a payment, I've lost a phone and £200" thread.

Never EVER sell phones on ebay, it's just not worth it.

Original Poster

Gah, thats what im beginning to think >.
It seems like paypal offer pretty much no protection, so im screwed if they are a scammer, and they have 0 feedback. Bleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh

£200 seems a lot for a second hand phone - you are not sending it to a bus stop in Nigeria are you? Have you tried ebay forums for the address to check it isn't a repeat scammer with a new account name?

Original Poster

Its around the top end of the price for this phone, there are some that have gone for more, but more that have gone for less. Its not an unusual amount...

Have yet to get an address, will check when i do.

Everything will seem to be ok, payment received, phone sent via RMSD, you may even get feedback saying lovely phone thanks etc. but then in a week or 2 you get a message from Paypal saying the payment has been reversed, The account holder didn't buy the phone etc. You lose the phone and your money.

It's a well known scam on eBay, which is why I would never sell a phone on there, well maybe I'd risk my old Nokia 3310... lol

lol

I would sent a letter to them, something with some choice words in (or the contents of a poop scoop). Send it recorded so you get a tracking number, then play dumb with them, email them and thank them for their business, send the tracking number ask them to let them know when they get their "phone"... lol

Heh, im sure i can have some fun with this... gonna report it to ebay 1st though.

High priced electrical good, a new seller and a new buyer - smelled like a Nigerian scam to me all along. At least you are smart enough to spot it. There is a site all about baiting these type of scammers which at least occupies some of their time so they can't then be scamming someone else.

]http//ww…om/

The other common scams on eBay are fake jeans and fake blades. Have fun baiting.

I like to offer to send it but then get into an increasingly ridiculous escalating series of charges for postage, packing and insurance with each email exchange.

However I now add "I will not send this item to Nigeria" to every high cost item I sell.
