no ask for a cheque or a registered address?

can u show the link?

Everyone has to be new sometime.

Just check if the payment has gone through, then send it once it has.

Just do recorded so he can't it has not arrived.

Always be wary of sending items to unconfirmed addresses, especially something like an iPod.

You will have no protection from paypal if you continue. I'd request an alternative method of payment and suggest that they get their address confirmed.

Good luck.

Would have to send via Special Delivery, due to the value of the iPod Touch (RD only covers for £36)

the payment going through means nothing if it is a stolen credit card as paypal will pull it back!!
dont send until you check it out!

Of course you have protection thought paypal, even if sending to an unconfirmed address.

As long as you pay via paypal to the address that they have registered, and you send it with proof of postage even better if they have to have it signed for, then paypals seller protection will cover you.

No I appreciate that, but I mean't that if the buyer does post the iPod (regardless of the payment method) they will need to send it be Special Delivery, as it's the only method that provides adequate cover

just pray that you dont have to claim via royal mail....... mine took 8 months!

hi yes sorry-just dont want him to send it at all until its been checked out. There are far too many scammers on ebay! its ok giving the benefit of the doubt for a couple of quid but not high value items?

fingers crossed i get mine....when did you put your application thingy in ?

can someone clarify as i have looked at paypal site and assumed that if unconfirmed then you are not usually covered as the buyer hasnt got a card set up? thanks!

if its a stolen card then the original owner will just do a chargeback you are not covered by paypal with an unconfirmed address. i would tell him to either get it confirmed of ill put back on ebay and make sure they have a confirmed address!! As for recorded you can up the insurance value!! but always send high costing things Special delivery as they are tracked the whole way unlike recordeds that are just sent as first class mail with a signature at the end if they make it

This is not true at all. If you send to an unconfirmed address then you are not covered by the seller protection policy. beats me how ebay practically insist on paypal these days but do not only allow confirmed paypal bids. It would save so much dispute.

From paypal:-

In order to qualify for the seller protection policy, the following is required:

Seller has a Verified Business or Premier account.

The seller’s account must be attached to a bank account that is confirmed through PayPal’s Verification process. When you are a Verified seller, not only are you more protected, but you also increase your credibility and appeal with buyers. Verifying your seller account is free and easy to do. ]Learn more about Verification

well i got done by paypal 30 days after the guy received it and left positive feedback on ebay. paypal took the money back out my account as they said it wasa fraudulent transaction and they wouldnt tell me anything as they said due to confidentiality they couldnt divulge any information of the other persons account. I lost over £90. Paypal is good when no problem but sucks if the person is a scammer and knows how to play it.
I would suggest getting another form of payment as the money may be taken back from you by paypal if the person is at it.

I think you'll find if you have a dispute made against you as a seller from someone who claims not to recieved their item whether their address is confirmed or not makes no difference, if you have proof that they have signed for that item then they will be ruled against, I've been attempted to be scammed enough to know this be the case

How a buyer can confirm an address.

Tell your buyer to confirm their address by adding a debit or credit card to their PayPal account. PayPal will confirm the card billing address where possible (the address where you receive your card statement).

But in my experience, over half of the items I send recorded never actually get signed for or show as signed for on the RM pages.

The paypal rules are clear as stated above. maybe they have changed since you last tried to get scammed.

Its not as though its difficult for the buyer to confirm his address (see above). If they dont want to, then that would set alarm bells of IMO.

I'm with you csiman. I understand minstrelboys point of view, but on this occasion I disagree with him.

I agree whole heartedly there.

If you read the statement above the table of key rules of seller protection:

"The risk of not complying with the Seller Protection Policy is that you may be liable for losses in the event of possible fraudulent payments or false buyer claims"

The key rules aren't strict guidlines which must be followed becuase they know they can't enforce address verification, disputes are never black and white - but if you do all you can to prevent being scammed (ie post to the paypal address, even if they ask you via ebay to send to a different address, send RD and keep the tracking number/ reciept) then they will rule in your favor, take it to escaleted enquireies if you must

In the paypal dictionary 'may' and 'will' have VERY similar definitions ;-)

then on 7 occasions I guess I have just been "lucky" then

cheers buddy

I wouldnt take any risk if value is over £30. Of course, if the ebay buyers feedback is over 100 positives then this thread is a bit pointless really IMO.

I'd still ask him to get confirmed to cover your back. it only takes 2 minutes.
