    eBay buyer protection not valid for gift vouchers and coupons section?!

    I purchased a M&S gift card from eBay over 2 weeks ago, from the category: Events Tickets > Gift Vouchers & Coupons > Other Gift Vouchers & Coupons

    The voucher hasn't arrived and despite a number of emails to the seller I have received no response and so I went to open a dispute and I get this message from eBay:

    We're sorry there's an issue with your purchase. Unfortunately, this item isn't in a category covered by eBay Buyer Protection. We don't offer buyer protection on items listed in the Real Estate category, certain Motors categories, or in the Classified Ad format. You can try to resolve this problem by contacting the seller.

    I am confused as I always thought physical gift vouchers were covered, I know there is something about electronic delivery, but the price included 1st class recorded delivery.

    Has anyone else had this problem, or have any suggestions? Thanks.

    Normally there are loads of people on here who comment on eBay threads!
    I have just asked for the contact details of the seller, they had good feedback and some for other m&s gift cards so I'll give them a call tomorrow.
    It's worth knowing the category isn't covered if this is definitely the case as I buy quite a few things from it, I have emailed eBay to ask them.

    Well I googled my issue and couldn't find any useful info and know that lots of helpful HUKDers use it so didn't see the harm in the thread. I didn;t know the eBay don't cover this category so others probably don't either.

    I'm trying to open the dispute via the eBay page and 'resolve a problem' and this is when I receive the message saying I can't open the dispute. Can you open a dispute directly via paypal instead of through eBay?

    its the way i almost always do it. i once tried a ebay claim, and failed, paypal sorted it though quick sharp.

    Super, I'll try giving the seller a call tomorrow as their feedback seems good and I'm surprised I haven't heard or received anything, and if I don't get anywhere with that I'll go straight to paypal and do it that way. I'm disappointed in eBay though, makes me think twice about using that category again.

    same thing has happened to me. I had no idea that buyer protection didnt cover vouchers - i feel mislead

    paypal also says:

    wasted £200. Great!

    Give Paypal a call, they might open up a dispute over the phone - people have had success that way in the past. Good luck.

    Sickly Sweet, i notice that this thread is 15 months old, so what was the outcome in your case?

    Also to those in a similar predicament, if you made a payment through a credit card and was for a value over £100 (i.e the paypal fund source was a credit card over the value of £100) then you can get your credit card company involved and get them to reverse the charges or do a chargeback on the basis of "goods not received". Paypal will probably end up paying the credit card company back and charge the sellers account for them.

    I can't actually remember but know I wasn't left out of pocket so either it arrived or eBay/Paypal refunded...I think I was refunded.
    The best advice is to phone paypal and getting them to open the dispute over the phone, it bypasses the block put on that category you face when trying to open the dispute online.

    i just googked and got this thread, have things changed as i cant find vouchers inthe buyer exlusion list..
