eBay custom PCs?

Would anyone reccomend them? A few people have told me that they use cheap parts etc, but by current PC I got 5 years ago from eBay, custom built with no make parts, and it's still up and running fine, only had to change the power supply once!

If so, what processor should I go for? I need something that can handle DVD ripping/burning and something that will accomodate for Kaspersky's scans, as they usually slow down my 3.2ghz intel pentium 4.

Something like item number: 310141647962

I would look at building your own. Its not really difficult, if you get a barebone your only putting in cdroms hd's and memory cards. So no really risk of damage. Im sure theres a million guides.

Ebuyer and Ebay people use cheap parts.

310141647962 Standard parts probably low end.

Do people really do full scans? I've never done one and have never had a virus. I thought AV programmes were supposed to pick them up straight away?

Depends on lots of things, whether you go on crappy sites, I don't have a virus checker on the pc I am on at the moment, but I don't venture on sites I know are going to be comprimised.

Yeah it's always good to do it once a week, as anti-virus software isn't always up to date and before the virus is added to their updates, it might've already been implemented into hard drives! I don't go on sites that may compromise, but I have a lot of important data so I just do it weekly incase

If you went self build what would you want from it and how much would you have to spend on it?

I only have a budget of around £300 or so, which is why the customs seem perfectly priced!

Was hoping for these specs, MINIMUM:

Core2quad processor
500gb HDD
2gb RAM
GFX card (not onboard) 512mb
6 USB Ports

I'm in Harrow

I'm still trying to figure out the best processor for my budget though

If you went custom build you would just about be able to squeeze the Quad in but no graphics card at all for £310 ish.

The E5200 is a good processor though if you wish to try and overclock it (lots of positive reports on the net), and only costs around £57.

You could then get a HD4830 into your budget, or near enough.

You won't get that for £300 unless you get an exceptional deal. For example the ebay one is £300 and you'd have to add another £80 on top of that for a copy of windows and £80 for a graphics card with a chipset appropriate to 512mb of memory.

I'm sure there are a few reputable sellers on ebay, but a lot of the listings aren't honest which makes you wonder about the quality and technical support, for example the one you mentioned has the seller listing the processing running at 9.6Ghz when it really runs at a quarter of that speed and using a way out of date graph (probably two years old now) to show the CPU's performance.

i bought an ebay one for about £280 at the time, similar spec to yours above, works a dream and would recommend it
