    Ebay, Paypal, Bank Transfer ?

    Hi all,

Just looking for some info & advice. I have recently sold an itme on ebay for over £200. The winning bidder has emailed me saying his PayPal is playing up & can he send me a Bank Transfer.
I have never done this before so am unsure of security , how safe it is, can he take the money back after receivng the goods..etc

His feedback is over 150 (all positive)

What do you think would you accept this - any advice greatly appreciated
    Thanks

I would go bank transfer. You only need to send a few details. If he looks like a trusted member.

He cant do any kinds of claims with paypal.

    Bank transfer is pretty safe.

+1 easy as and you don't pay bull paypal fees.

Its why Paypal gift payments are used here.

You normally just need the roll number or sort code/account number. If you've both got the same bank then it will be easier and funds sorted same day.

Best to have the name as without it you could send it to the wrong person and there is no way to get it back,

Maybe he offered a cheque as he hasnt be paid of something yet and doesnt have the funds in his bank account?

    doesnt make any sense

why is his paypal playing up when everybody else's is ok?

Personally unless I was desperate for the money I would say I'd send it once the paypal account was sorted and paid for via that means.

I had this the beginning of one month because my credit card, that i had on the account had expired (at the end of the last month) and for some reason it would only let me send echeques until i registered a new back up credit card.

Think its hard to prove if its only one transaction.

    Though maybe wrong.

Is there a payment type that cannot be retrieved under any circumstances?

I can only think of cash and bankers cheques (even they can be fraudulent), cash can be fake so is there any way of been paid and guaranteed you will keep it?

    he states:-

"I have tried to pay this threw my paypal account all it keeps doing is make change to my details so could I send a cheque"

I'm just reluctant to send him my Bank details.

Can you show us the user. Seems a bit wierd that. Why doesn't he update his details then.:whistling:

The details you will provide are all on a cheque for anyone to view.

Good advice. If you smell the slightest whiff of uncertainty with ebay, pull out of the deal. Unless you like taking chances.....

Yep but thats not giving bank details away to the buyer to scam?:?

Not heard of cheque scamming in todays society

Excellent film with Leonardo decrapio does this.

What scamming can be done with Bank account and sort code (that is still around since the 70's!)
Even if a DD were to be set up, it would be fraudulent as the signature would be wrong and be refunded

As sassie said with a transfer they could reverse it based on hacking.

I can do online bank transfers and I could claim someone got access to my account.

Over the phone I agree with you. But the likelyhood he will do it on the internet.

    Get me.

If he does a BT then he has to give the buyer his bank details as above.

OP stated 'I'm just reluctant to send him my Bank details.'

To which I replied all the details he will have to give are on a cheque which are readily available to anyone you give a cheque to. So if you do down the BT route it's as safe as most payment types.

Bank transfer is 100% safe, it cannot be recalled.

I would trust this over Paypal any day of the week.

Please find me a reference to being a 100% safe. I'm obviously interested myself.

I use it but am under no impression its 100% safe.

I have worked in banking for a decade and was in retail for 2 years.

If it is done fraudulently the honus is on the bank to cover the loss as it is their lapse in security.

If you were gonna accept 200 quid via Paypal i'd defo accept it by BT.

Is that in the banks small print anywhere?

    Would be interested to know.

    Thanks

    Agree with that.

I don't think it is something that they would want to advertise.

I agree there is no real risk with bank transfer, especially if it goes through faster payments, the money will be in your account almost immediately, and through faster payments there is no way the money can be recalled.

go through BT if you can, much easier for yourself aswell
