Ebay & Paypal.... (wanna make some money guvnor....)

Well what you do is find a nice big expensive item that HAS to be collected personally (too much trouble to post etc..). You then pay with Paypal, pick the item up and put in a non delivery claim. Simple eh?

Oh, forgot to mention, you then sell the item you picked up to somebody else, that's where your profit comes from :-)

Learn more about these changes. This policy also includes a new section titled ‘Misleading and Discouraging Payments’, which has been put in place to allow buyers to bid on or buy an item knowing that all the payment options in the listings will be available to them. This means sellers must not act in any way to discourage buyers from paying by methods that they offer in their listing.Regards,The eBay Team

If someone was picking an item up I sold, I would want cash.

been done to me about 7 years ago or so. A pair of trainers for £30. The seller collected and claimed back. I got a minus in my paypal and never paid Paypal back for it. Still using my missus's account to this day!

so that means if you sell a car, you've got to accept Paypal payment if the buyer wants to pay that way :w00t:

i just would not let them collect without cash to hell with all the stupid ebay rules( just refund the paypal payment and say its not for sale only cash)

ebay sucks lately they have changed some stupid things and to many fraudsters on there

This has actually worked out ok for me recently. I bought something from a seller and it got lost in the post!!!! I contacted him a few times, but after ten days put in a PayPal claim. A few days later the item arrived, so I tried to stop the claim. I could not because the seller closed his account with eBay and PayPal. PayPal then paid the amount I paid back into my Bank. Luckily it was not a high priced item.

I agree. And if I ever sold anything personal collection i'd state quite clearly CASH ONLY. What would they do, cancel my ebay account. How bothered am I?

By the way, it's been a while since I listed anything (over a year I think), can you list with Paypal as accepted payment method without linking a paypal account to your ebay account. Failing that could you list and then remove the paypal account from your ebay settings

I'd waited three weeks for it to arrive, paid for next day delivery. I don't think it had got lost, hence the !!!!!!. I think that he was not going to send it until he saw I put a claim in. Can't really understand what happened next though!

what you could do is, say they need to pay a deposit by paypal and the rest COD

That would still be breaking ebay rules. I might give ebid a go for a laugh.

Easy solution. If someone pays you by Paypal and then collects (and you think that they might do a chargeback), simply get an empty envelope, and post it to them via Recorded Delivery.

Then you've got you proof of delivery for when the claim non-receipt of the goods :-D

That's what I actually suggested to somebody a while back. Send a recorded delivery invoice before collection.

At the end of the day this isn't to protect anybody, its just more greed from ebay towers.

You wouldnt have proof of anything - and this would be fraud!!!!

Yeah, but so would collecting the item and then claiming that you haven't received it

Like shengis said, all you need to do is write out a receipt for the item, and then get them to sign it upon collection and then post it to them.

Well !!! i agree that ebay is a rip off & just devise policies to make more money. further i find the the valueable suggestions what a Seller should do in case he get in some kind of similar trap/problem etc. I suggest that while discussing on this forum, just put these apprehensions to ebay, like visit this page, go to the comment section of the page and say what is not helpful and how it is causing trouble to Seller/Buyer. If they want to do bussiness they would listen at some level, specially if lot more comments are made on policies. As an example i have put my comment at the bottom as a reference.

pages.ebay.co.uk/hel…tml

Just keep doing that and somebody may address a few atleast.

Comments Sent to Ebay via above said page:

"Nothing in the sense of making things better; just seems like putting a mechanism for generating more money from ebay and paypal.
Can be made useful by addressing on those isssue which sellers/Buyers may have; like if a seller has to accepts PayPal payment and the item is collection only or seller wants to collect etc. Now if afterwards a Buyer says that item is not delivered. What ebay/PayPal would do in this case. Oppos !! seller has lost his money and he has no protection from ebay/PayPal."
