    EBay question

    Hi
An item I listed on ebay didn't sell but before I could relist I received a message asking if I could make a deal privately.

I was hoping someone could give me some advice please. Should I sell privately and post to this seller? He only joined eBay last week and has zero feedback. I wouldn't mind a local collection privately(will ask buyer if he can make arrangements) but has anyone ever delivered things without problems outside ebay? Would paypal still cover me?

Thanks in advance for any help.

You are about to be scammed.

    Don't touch it.

you won't get any help from eBay if you trade outside their rules & regs...

    No!

relist the item for the price you want to sell , give them the item number so you they can buy it now

sorry meant you won't get any help from PayPal..

Thanks for the reply. How could they scam me?

As the seller, you usually won't hit any problems if the buyer pays either via bank transfer or PayPal family/friends. He's the one taking a risk, not you. I've done this numerous times, nothing has ever gone wrong.

    NO SCAMMER ALERT

Walk away. You will carry all the risks so not worth it.

I'd already listed it at the price I wanted it. (Not very expensive £15 )

They can send you a fake paypal invoice or be using a stolen credit card.
I would never use paypal in this way if you want to sell to the guy.
BT would be fine as long as you make sure the money is in your account first before posting item.

Thanks for the comment. Not sure whether to insist on collection as I would prefer to keep it simple- but as others have mentioned, as said person has 0 feedback might just relist and ask the person to buy it now.

how, like most paypal scams outside ebay and some even via ebay they would either say item was not as described and send back a different item or say item not recived if it didn't track properly or maybe say there account was hacked and they didn't order the item they get refund u get nothing back. if u do local collection always take cash only no bank transfer or paypal and be vary of paypal as they favour buyers if they clam it as damged or not as described good luck.

If you decide on collection make sure he pays cash only. Do not accept payment through PayPal when offering collection.

Thanks will do that - I don't know why they they didn't just bid as they'd messaged me earlier asking if I accept returns. oO

Just make them bid. Or offer a Buy It now. No hassle that way.

Yeah, does sound a bit strange. As the item isn't of high value, you won't get charged much fees so you may as well just stick to eBay. In future, bank transfer is the safest option outside of eBay. Again, for the seller, not the buyer.

That's true - will message the seller first and see what price he had in mind and if he's being silly will just relist for 10 days. oO

The zero feedback is putting me off for some reason. (When I first joined eBay I'd never have dreamed of asking a seller to sell outside eBay! ! Especially after a week!!)

Relist it as a buy it now and signed for delivery. Take photos, serial numbers etc.

the only reason i would question the offer is the zero feedback. i have conducted sales via paypal invoice without any issue (as a seller). in this instance i would avoid (due to the users feedback) but dont dismiss paypal invoice sales with users with decent feedback all together.

All this seems a bit much for £15. Just re-list it. Don't meet him or do any deal outside of EBay.

check their eBay feedback, if in doubt you can always ask for payment via ppg, it happens on here everyday !

its only £15....give it to them its Xmas

I know - sorry about that! I unfortunately have issues with stress/panicking and as I had no one to talk to at the time, I decided to post on here for reassurance. Does seem like a trivial issue now, but at the moment I was about to "freak out"!!

Thanks to all the replies. Have messaged the buyer with how they'd like to proceed and if they want it delivered, will just relist as buy it now.

If he's local, do it collection only, cash on collection. otherwise, relist it.

Maybe I'm being stupid here, but people have said bank transfer, does that not mean you giving them your own sort code and acc number?

If he wants to do it directly through PayPal then he still gets buyer protection using Goods & Services and the only fee is the PayPal fee. If he pays via Family & Friends (Gift) then there are no fees but he doesn't get any protection.

Seems like a load of hassle. Do it through ebay and paypal or just relist. Someone else will buy it sooner or later.

Have just relisted on ebay as the buyer wanted me to post it and couldn't collect. Thanks for the advice and reassurance everyone!
