I just sold an item on Buy it Now on ebay. Now it's telling me to print off an address label via paypal. Now when I try and do this it tries to charge me £4.40.

At the moment the funds are being 'held' by paypal. Therefore the Q is...Can I send off the item without going through the paypal address label system, and if I do this, will the funds eventually get paid into my paypal account fully?

I'm quite new to eBay, so help will be much appreciated. Rep for help.

yes you can. I have never used the Paypal address system. The funds being held, are not to do with the address label. You should check this out with PP before sending

just write the address down, as paypal's "print" system is linked to royal mail,

just sell it how you would on here, write label, put on package etc

Chase up with Paypal why the funds haven't gone through yet. When the have, you should be able to view the transaction in your paypal account, will have the delivery address on there.

I think once the buyer leaves you feedback for the item the funds get released. i think its a new thing paypal are doing???

Paypal do this if you are either a new seller or considered to be a risky seller,

Just send as you intended to,

They will release the funds to you when either-

you receive positive feedback from the buyer
it's been 21 days since the payment date and you haven't received a dispute, claim, chargeback, or reversal on the transaction being held

send the item trackable, so Rm recorded (covers up to £39) or special delivery, or use a trackable courier on the paypal site, parcel force, ups. dhl. fedex are the most common ones

I would only use recorded for very low value as RM have a bad habit of not getting the recorded slip signed or take ages to get online

thing is the item was sold for £16, so is it worth it tracking it (as opposed to recorded)?

Definately send it recorded as a minimum, you need online proof that the item has been sent to be eligible for Paypal seller protection.

The cheapest special delivery is £4.95 and parcelforce will probably cost you £11.95 as a personal customer, so those are probably out of the price range for this value of sale.

you need to send it trackable as you can't prove the buyer recieved it without the signature, send it recorded but ask the post office clerk for a "certificate of posting" which will get you your money back / stamps of similar value if it goes missing. Paypal will automatically give the buyer the money back if you can't prove delivery

Depends on the value/nature of item and the feedback of the buyer etc,

If your sending normal 1st/2nd class get proof of postage receipt,if buyer looks dodgy best to send recorded

It doesn't need to be trackable,as long as you have the receipt of postage RM will pay comp for non receipt,in reality very, very few parcels go missing

cool cool...well actually the seller specializes in buying faulty phones (what I sold them), and they have 100% feedback from hundreds of people, so I may just do second class standard, and get a certificate of posting. that will cover my back whilst cutting down postage costs...(i hope)

Why? If it goes missing your covered anyhow? You will get a refund from RM as long as you have the POP,

I've sent 1000's of ebay packages by normal mail,percentage lost,1 in 1000

We have a rule of thumb that if the item will fit through the letter box and is less than £5.00 in value then send 1st class. If its a packet or higher than £5 in value send recorded. It's just gets rid of any hassle in making a claim and helps the buyer if the item doesn't turn up. So many times buyers ask if an item has been dispatched because they haven't received it and after tracking it on royal mail most often it turns out that RM did not leave a "while you were out" card and it's waiting for collection at the sorting office (we must get two or three of these per week). We have had many 1st class items supposedly "go missing" either due to RM or dodgy buyers but not one recorded. Recorded items have always been delivered or returned to us. In one instance we had a recorded item returned after 3 months.

There is no hassle in making a claim,if item isn't received within a certain time frame just refund the buyer and await your refund,

How many items do you sell that you get queries of 2/3 items not received per week/while you were out card not left :w00t:

The majority of ebay buyers are good, they wont claim not received and in the event that you get a dodgy 1 in a thousand RM take the loss

In my opinion it's a waste of money sending all items recorded when its not necessary, high value items, yes, most certainly must either go recorded or special,I've did that for years on ebay and it works out well

How many payment reversals did you get? We currently get on average 3 per month with an average value of £13 and without a means of online tracking it's not eligible for Paypal Seller Protection, we would simply take a loss on these transactions. With the recorded delivery Paypal refund us.

I think you missed the point, the customer has paid, Paypal are just holding the funds to protect the customer until the goods have been received. So he has to send it.

The only time you wouldn't send until the funds have cleared is if it was an echeque.

So your selling 3000 items per month? Must be a very 'in demand' product you sell :whistling:

I've never had Paypal hold funds untill i've sent an item. I've had them hold funds for many other reasons (problems with my account, buyers account and so on). So I still would not send untill I had at least spoke to Paypal about it. If funds are held, there is a reason.
