Ebay refund problem, advice needed!!!

Looking for some advice here from people re an ebay refund.

Bought an LG viewty phone a couple of weeks ago from Ebay, the phone turned up no problem but was in really poor condition, so anyways I contacted the seller and he agreed to a refund. I sent the phone back and the seller stated that it would take 7-9 days for paypal to transfer money from his bank account to his Paypal account to refund me.
ITs been more than 7 days so I emailed the guy and he says he is having problems with his Paypal account as he lost his bank card and is having trouble activating his account.
He says that he will do a bank transfer with the money into my account so that I can receive the refund. The seller has 112 feedback with 99.1% positive.
The question I'm wondering is, is it safe to give him some of my bank account details now that he knows my address and that.
Sorry for the stupid question but I've never done a bank transfer before.

sounds to me like hes stalling for time, how long is it before you cant put in a paypal dispute

Hurry Up and open a paypal dispute to cover your self incase he refuses to pay you.

makes me wonder if he has 112 ratings and only just needing to activate paypal?

but guess he could genuinally havin issues but that said why didnt he contact u to tell you instead of waiting for u to chase him

(please say u sent the phone back recorded and have the tracking number)

i would open a paypal enquiry so its logged and then if bank transfer isnt done in next few days escalate to dispute

What is his ebay Id?

eBay have been making users reauthorise their bank account details, happened to me and my dad and a buyer I was dealing with, it's really annoying because it takes time to get it sorted and they already have your details, I think it's a security thing to stop fraud but is penalising buyers and sellers that have a 100% record

Hi, ok have opened a paypal dispute now just incase. The phone was sent back recorded delivery and the seller has sent me an email stating tha he has received the phone. Ebay ID is starbuy786.
Is the general concesous (sp) that it is ok to proceed with a bankl transfer then to get the funds into my account??

its fine to give him your bank details
However - as a seller I wouldn't refund you by bank now you have started a dispute, as if he refunds you by bank transfer there is no way he can make you stop the paypal claim and you could get the money twice.
Don't know why people are so quick to say 'start paypal dispute now', its been a couple of weeks since he was paid, he most likely has already withdrawn the money. He could have been completely genuine and sent the transfer, another couple of days wouldn't have made any difference to the paypal dispute.

its nothing official until its escalated tho, it first gives u the chance to sort it with the seller and then can be escalated to a official dispute if needed

if he refunds it can be closed without it ever going to dispute and without any marks against him

personally i would drop him a email and tell him you just done it as a precautionary measure so all your communication could be logged and that you dont intend to escalate it if u get a refund and will close it when receieved

had the member contactrd the op to say he was having problems then fair enough, but 9 days later and no contact, i would have opened a dispute, becasue it sounds the old stalling for time to me,yes he maybe genuine, but he also may not be, when alarm bells ring then you should at least consider things may not be good, as already said a dispute is hardly going against anyone, its just ready to be esculated should the time come

I read it as a full dispute rather than the type you are talking about, if its the type you mean then fair enough.

nah you ut in a dispute (where all communications are done via paypal so any comeback all comms can be seen by paypal) if you are not happy then you esculate it, this is when paypal step in and deal with it and decide in whose favour
