always report these scam emails (with full email headers) to [email protected] before u delete them - then they can do something about them!!

I wish ebay would call them scam emails. Spoof sounds likes it's a joke, not really serious. Scam is much more appropriate.

what exactly is it they can do except warn users about it?

from the info u'd give with full email headers they can sometimes trace the culprit and direct the police to them!! it's a crime to scam people's personal details!!!

my uncle ot fooled by this scam

quite alot of ebay is a scam
once my friend was bidding for an xbox but underneath it said THE BOX meaning only giving the box of the console and he saw sum1 buy it for £50.

I've seen stuff like that before, i was looking through the mobile phones and so many are just links, you gotta feel sorry for people who don't realise and think they've got a bargain

i wouldn't say that's a scam, to be honest, unless it was listed under the games console category. it's totally up to the buyer to read the advert properly! i put a pc games manual on ebay once, in the category of games accessories, and clearly said in the advert that it was just the manual, - someone won the auction and then went mad at me for scamming them!

a friend of mine (ebay newbie) recently thought he'd won a top-of-the-range camera on ebay - but the advert clearly read that he was paying just for the link. annoying, yes - but if the advert tells you what you're getting, then it's the buyer who's in the wrong at the end of the day!!!

I've gotta agree with slinks, people that get caught out on ebay coz they don't read the advert properly only have themselves to blame.

Some people are gullible and you should definitely read all the way through a listing to make sure you know what's on sale, but selling links on eBay is against the rule and a scam.

sorry jcat but i think you're wrong (whack me if ur not!!!) selling links isn't against the rules unless the title is misleading

Slinks, don't try selling links on ebay - it's definitely against their rules. It comes under 'circumventing fees':

Users may not avoid eBay fees

Users may not use systems or techniques to circumvent eBay fees.

Examples:

* Offer outside of eBay - offering the opportunity to purchase the item or other merchandise outside of eBay through the eBay site.

aha! thanks jcat and sorry for doubting you

i've been selling on ebay for 3 years now and wouldn't dream of selling links - i agree that it aint right - and i stand fully corrected in that it's against the rules!

the thing is... if you type in 'link' you can see thousands of auctions like that - why aren't ebay stamping it out? all they need is one person to type in link and delete the offending auctions - every day!!!!!

thanx for that .... i had one the other day ... i usuLY delete things that arent from ppl i no n if i dnt expect a msg from them then i will delete it ... its stupid these days how people just get in to ur emails ... letter box.. n mobiles... im always gettin excited when i think i have new mail  n then its jus some stupid junk mail

Always be careful when you get such mails.
Even I had got similar mail 10 days back saying my account will expire if I dont fill in details but I just deleted.
Just yesterday I have bought an item from ebay and my account is working perfectly.
I forgot to report it to [email protected] but will do the next time.

I also get scam emails supposedly from the Washington Mutal Bank. But I don't have an account with them. I've never even heard of them.

Hi. Just to say to whoever said "Everything on eBay is a scam", there are many reputable buyers and sellers on eBay. We provide a good and fair service to each other, and without this eBay wouldn't be what it is.

I do not endorse people selling links on eBay, but I do say that buyers should always check the description carefully to avoid things like this. Also, try to match information up to official product sites to check that it is true.

Users who sell boxes, etc, on eBay should at least state it clearly in the description, and to be sure, in the title to avoid confusion.

If you get any scam e-mails, or "spoof" e-mails (which I agree sounds like a joke) then visit the eBay security center, where you can get tips on protectiong your account along with how to report spoof and more.

HI

i'm new but just to say that recently ebay have enhanced there my ebay screen to show my messages and any emails from ebay regarding your account will be visible in myebay rather than sending them out to you so if you get any in your normal email it's best to forward them to [email protected] or [email protected] if its regarding paypal account which i have had in the past
