    Ebay Scam Help

    Hi all,

I recently sold my Joggler on ebay. Some dude from Cyrpus won the item. After a few questions, he has paid (including £20 for shipping!)

The next day I sold a phone on ebay and surprise surprise, someone from Cyrpus bought the item - i've not had payment for this one yet.

Anyhow, the Joggler buyer has a "Seller Protected" status - although Address Verification is only available in UK/US/Canada he has confirmed his address and phone number by email...

    His English is almost perfect...

This morning, he emailed me to verify payment... the emails shows this:

subjectRE: Item no.250640665496 - Notification of an Instant Payment Received from mushroominfected ([email protected]gmail.com)
    mailed-byhotmail.com
Images from this sender are always

its a GMAIL address but MAILED byt HOTMAIL.COM

    What should I do?

unless you can get signed for other send shipping then i wouldnt send, refund payment, and future ref always tick the uk only

    check your paypal.

He probably just send you a fake paypal email.

I can send emails addressed from gmail directly from my yahoo email, in fact I have several domains where I can send email addressed from but via yahoo mail, most webmail allow you to link other emails to them, so thats no issue.

The issue is sending out of the uk as tracking is absent via RM. The only time I have sold overseas is via a international courier.

Log into your Paypal account and check if the money is there all not.

If it isn't, he's trying to scam you with a fake Paypal 'payment received' notification email. If it is, then there's some other explanation as to why "Hotmail" appears in the email header but you needn't worry about it.

I think seller protection extends to EU members, so you should be ok. Just make sure it's sent international signed for, or whatever it's called.

    +1

I get this all the time for any items I have listed as my business account shows a contact email address. Scammers think you will fall for their spoof payment email and send the item to the address on the email. My ebay / paypal payment address is different to the shown business email address on listing.

Always check your paypal account. Do not use links in any emails just type the URl for Paypal yourself.

the money IS in my paypal account.

my main concern is that RM do not provide compensation once the item leaves the UK

I would wait 3 days to post it to make sure the money stays in your Paypal account.

I'm pretty sure 'Royal Mail International Signed For' covers compensation,

only to countries where tracking is to the door with a signature. A lot of countries arent covered but its nigh on impossible trying to find out which ones on the RM website!

wont make any difference. Buyer will just wait until it arrives and file an INR report.

Paypal are a joke, sent an item to Lativa, and he claimed that he did not authroise the transaction. I sent paypal 1). Tracking number 2). Confirmation letter from RM confirming the person received it 3). Copies of RM INSF with receipt - every piece of evidence that PP requested we sent - and guess what, still not protected. Give up.

I post things abroad but only when I'm confident that the buyers feedback is high enough... one day I'll be scammed, i'm just too damn trusting!
