eBay scam, what am i missing?

I had a listing on ebay that i was selling multiple items buy it now, i only had one item left and didnt want the listing to end as had more stock arriving so raised the price from £20 to £250

Then last night someone purchased it for £250! they have well over a 1000 feedback and its all 100% - but noticed they've purchased over 2000 items in the last month?

So whats the catch, surely there's no way someone would pay this is there? I've tried contacting them through ebay and not heard back yet?

So whats the scam here?

could be a hacked or bought account.

I've sent a message to the email address on the paypal notification.

Or maybe they 'bought' it just to annoy you when they saw the price? Perhaps they thought you were trying it on, leaving it there at a vastly inflated price, just in case someone accidentally clicked BIN. A NPB strike here or there won't hurt them.

Although tbh any account buying over 2k items in one months needs looking at.

Just send it then. You have seller protection, right? You have tried to contact them which is more than you needed to.

What is their feedback?

Make sure you only send to the correct address to make sure you keep seller protection.

I cant see that being the case being i have another load of the same item on the way.

maybe Kanye West bought it

You have done nothing wrong, just ship it and keep the money. He/she paid up in good faith and is awaiting your item.

some people are of the mindset the more you pay the better the quality.
they may have looked at 100 and seen that you were the most expensive.

We welcome everyone

Maybe they wanted to end your listing so your new stock goes on a new listing.
They then open a returns on the item they bought as it mysteriously got damaged in the post.
They get their money back.

sometimes it's teen kids purchasing stuff on eBay, so send it recorded or something , Atleast you will know they have received it!
I know alot of fraud is going on about that

with 2000+ items purchased in the past month, it's either a stolen account / someone using stolen cards to pay or maybe someone who has won the lottery etc and they're just spending madly online

it's worth googling "persons name lottery" just for fun to see if there are any results

I only asked what the item was because perhaps they think it's rare or something, if it's cheapo phone cases etc that you sell obviously this wont be the case (har har)

good luck anyway, check for a positive/negative feedback once they've received the item and update the thread accordingly

I wasn't brave enough to send mine and I fully expected negative feedback but I didn't receive any.

I'm intrigued to see how the OP deals with this.

Email the purchaser explaining that you are giving them 24 hours to reconsider their purchase and permit them to withdraw the offer to buy without prejudice, if you don't hear within 24hours you will deem the contract legal and binding.
At 24hours and 1 second later, withdraw the cash, close the bank account, get a prepaid bank card and register that with Paypal.
Ebay get a copy of all messages - you can argue that you tried to 'be fair', and possession is nine tenths of the law.

Shipped the item yesterday morning, sent it via hermes and insured it to the value of what they paid.

Had an email received this morning at 03:35 (not via ebay) in response to the email i sent at 07:30 on the 22nd...(the time on their reply shows they received it at 22:30 local time)

Thanks for letting me know - I hadn't checked the price before purchasing! Could you let me know how much it was supposed to be please? and if possible, arrange for a partial refund.

Very odd, they don't seem at all bothered.

Did you tell them there was a price error, why are they asking for a partial refund ?
