Lol. Guess that's a bit like firing a missile rather than a sniper!

    myibidder for android, flawless

Yes that one or gixen both are very good

I use to use EZ Sniper and it was great, but have not bid for anything from Ebay for years so hopefully my credit stays on there if I ever want to use it again.

May try it again on a Galaxy S7 if the OnePlus 5 is priced too high.

Dont like this sort of thing! Not very fair!

    +1 for Gixen.

There is also a paid for version of Gixen (about £5) that had several additional options.

also used gixen and won me an auction on a laptop . something I do not like to d is bid.

i just do it manually, never been beaten if the price is right.

    ^^ this agree

No "sniper" apps/programs are any use, due to the 1st bid takes priority. If its something your really after then you have a limit price and will tend to be watching the auction inside the last 15 mins anyway. Just save any bidding until the last minute.

Well, if you can't bid at the last minute, sniper apps can. Which makes them of some use.

the whole point of sniping is you're not there when the auction ends

Look, the fact is that this software is out there for all to use and others are using it. Whether you believe in it or not will not stop others and if your beliefs stop you using them then you are at a disadvantage. You're not going to win any Nobel peace prizes for refraining to do something completely legal. Just a warm fuzzy feeling inside.
I hope that fuzzy feeling keeps you warm in the winter. I personally will use money saved by using these legal methods.

    What???

    Mibidder works well for me.

Open 2 different browsers....have your bid filled in ready on one ready to submit whilst refreshing the other browser. Hit submit in the last 2 seconds and it stops the sniper coming back at you (most only go down to 3 seconds).

    Look at termite's post.

Anyway, why would you need two different browsers? Are you stuck in 1999?

    Same here.

Research the item your interested in, put your max bid in with seconds remaining, hope for the best.

Outbid? - repeat at next auction for same item, eventually you will get that item for at worst your max limit.

I'd consider a sniper for a really rare item which is very hard to get hold off, but for general items method above works fine.

you don't understand the purpose of the eBay sniper tool do you?

I don't get the sniper tool. If my max bid is say 250, I'll just bid that amount and if it goes above then I wouldn't have bided higher anyway.

    Vote for Gixen as well

Stops someone bidding you up so that you end up paying closer to your maximum. Also automatic bid in the last few seconds of an auction is far more likely to be successful.

Never try to teach a pig to sing; it wastes your time and it annoys the pig.

    What???

Lets say the auction ends at 8 PM If bidder 1 places the one bid of £10, that is the highest bid obviously. Bidder 2 then comes along and places a maxiumum bid of say £50 at 2PM in the afternoon, ebay automatically makes thier next bid of £11 the highest bid.

Bidder 1 sits and waits until a few seconds before the end of the auction to try and snipe and bids £50, they still lose due to the earlier maximum bid by bidder 2 as ebay again make an automatic bid on behalf of Bidder 2.

Auction ends and the sniper loses out. Been this way for ages.

You put your max bid in and it bids for you at the last second or so.

What I do in effect is the same but manually.

I have enough self-control to not get into a bidding war, which I believe is the main reason for a sniping tool.

If I'm prepared to pay £x for an item I put my max bid in with seconds to go, if I miss out, rinse and repeat until I win, I research said item and won't go over the average selling price for that item.

Like I said earlier I totally 'get' the tool if said item was rare or collectible though.

Elon...bidding/auction are about getting something cheaper then in a "fair" price.. if you want to overpaid you can simply go to store

This is excellent (and I upvoted it) but the one I've heard more often is:

Never wrestle with a pig .. coz you both get dirty but the pig enjoys it ..

I was using the figure as an example.

Yes, but the example only works with round numbers. The chances of 2 people bidding the same amount are minimal, if one is a sniper, making the fact of whoever bids earlier irrelevant. Sure, it does happen when 2 people bid a nice round £50, but snipers generally aren't rookies who make that mistake.

If you do get to the situation where 2 people have both bidded £50.36 then you just have to shrug and realise it's not your day, but chances are it won't happen again for a while (although I know that's not how chance works).
