ebay/paypal message ive never seen before - Payment pending?

Found 1st Mar 2009
Ive just sold three things on ebay and had 3 messages into my ebay inbox saying this:

The buyer has sent their payment for the item listed below and it is currently being processed by PayPal. You can also sign into your PayPal account now to check the status of this payment.
PayPal is the safer, easier way to get paid online. After you claim your payment, you can withdraw your funds immediately or keep it in your PayPal account for use later. Learn more.
This message was sent to your eBay account and to your email address, so you can view this information in your message centre in My eBay and in your inbox.

Ive gone to paypal and there is nothing there nor no messages in my normal email, does anyone know what this is/means?

I had the same thing when I sold something the other day, have you just changed your email address? I changed it on Ebay and on Paypal but the item I was selling still had the old address, check the advert on ebay for the item you just sold and I bet it still has your old email address - the money has been sent to an account that doesn't exist

just had a thought it doesn't give your email address on the advert.. you will have to submit a spoof advert (don't worry you don't have to submit it) but when you are making up your advert towards the bottom it will say something like use account [email protected] paypal account

had someone pay by this over a week ago and it still hasnt cleared

Yeah I looks like a paypal cheque - normally takes about 2 weeks ish to clear in my experience. If you click on the payment in paypal it will tell you the date that it is estimated to clear.
Oh, don't post till its cleared!

send your buyers an email and ask them to claim back their money via paypal ( they wont have any trouble because you haven't claimed it) and then you send them a new claim via paypal (request money)

and ask them to make sure they use the "request money" form that you sent and don't go via ebay as that will just send it to the old lycos account again

I had customer send me a ECheque it can take you 10 days plus. Tell the customer that you are waiting for it to clear (that way you dont get negative feedback), dont send the goods (just in case its scammer).

Here is a copy of the letter I got from PayPal when I had an Identical problem to you.

I understand that you are enquiring about the funds that you still have not
received on your PayPal account.

As your personal consultant today, let me apologize for any inconvenience
this might have caused you, I will do my best to search for the best option
that would work best for you to sort out this issue.

If your buyer had told you that they had already sent you a payment, you
can try to view the email address that you used in your eBay listing, just
follow these steps:

Log in to your eBay account and click 'My eBay'
In the Search box, enter your Item number and click Search
Click on Sell Similar
Click on step four at the top of the Sell Your Item page
Scroll down to Payment & Postage to view the email address you registered
when you listed your item

If you noticed that the payment was sent to your old email address and this
email address is not yet registered to your PayPal account or any PayPal
accounts you can add that email address and confirm it on your account.
Let me provide the steps below.

Log in to your account at paypal.com/
Click the "Profile" subtab.
Select the "Email" link from the "Account Information" column.
Click "Add".
Add the new email address.
Click "Save".

PayPal will automatically send an email to the email address you just
added. Click the "Click here" link in the email and enter the password for
your PayPal account. If you enter the password correctly, the email address
will be confirmed.

You can also confirm your email address by logging in to your PayPal
account at paypal.com/ .Click the "Confirm email" link, and
then follow the steps on the email that you received on your inbox to
confirm it completely.
If the payment was sent to your old email address and this email address in
no longer active anymore and this is not yet registered to any PayPal
accounts, you can just ask your buyer to cancel it on their PayPal account
and then send it to the right email address on your PayPal account.

Here's what they can do to cancel an 'Unclaimed' transaction:
Log in to your account at paypal.com
Click the 'History' tab.

Select the relevant dates in the Date box and click ‘Search’.
Click 'Cancel' in the Action column of the unclaimed transaction. (You may
only cancel a payment that has a status of 'Unclaimed' and a 'Cancel'
button in the Action column).

Click 'Cancel Payment'.
The funds from the cancelled payment will be returned to either the
sender's credit card or the balance of their PayPal account, depending on
the funding source used for the original payment. A credit to a credit card
may take up to 30 days to process, depending on the card issuer.

To send the payment to your PayPal account, forward the steps below also.
Log in to your account at paypal.com.
Click the 'Send Money' tab.
Enter the right email address of the seller. Enter full amount of payment.
Choose Goods below and review your payment details including the payment
method. Click 'More Funding Options' to make any changes.
Click 'Send Money' or 'Pay' to complete the payment. To edit the
information, click 'Change' or 'Edit'. Note: If you edit your payment
details, the funding source will return to the default method of payment.
After all doing all the process, I assure you 100%, you will be able to
accept the payment on your PayPal account.

To avoid for this to happen again before you release your listing on eBay,
make sure that you have the right email address on your listing and that is
the one registered and confirmed on your PayPal account.

If ever this will happen again just keep this email so that you may have a
reference on what to do again.

Lastly, my sincerest apologies for the delay that you have experienced in
hearing back from PayPal Customer Support. This delay is the result of a
high volume of incoming email inquiries lately. We are working as quickly
as we can to address all of your concerns in a timely manner and to get our
volumes under control.

I earnestly hope that I was able to tackle all points of queries
conceivable to your satisfaction. Please do not be hesitant to be in
contact with us should you encounter any difficulty further in respect to
this issue or should you be in need of assistance on your PayPal account.

I am always inclined to be of service to you should you deem it necessary.
Should you need further assistance, please let me know, I'll be more than
willing to assist you again.

Thank you for contacting PayPal. We appreciate your business with us.
Take care and all the best.

Sincerely,

SCAM SCAM ,,, i hope you dodnt click the paypal button in the email ,, and i hope you went to paypal via google .. if not ,,, change all your passwords at once

'She' cant add old email to paypal cause its a lycos addy that doesnt exist anymore. Ive emailed the buyers the situation just hope they understanding!

There is an option in the PayPal request money for payments for Ebay items, you have to fill in the item number, urls etc..so that PayPal can marry it up against your ebay item. I can't see it being a problem if PayPal are telling you to do it this way.

So many people must be doing this when they change their email address. I changed mine over 18 months ago and have been quite happily buying on there, it's only when I went to sell something it remembered my old addie in the auction
