Ebay/paypal question

Just decided to start selling bits and bobs on ebay again, haven't done so in over a year so just a quick 2 questions.

My little brother tells me that you don't get your paypal money straight away any more is this correct?

As I am not a fan of paypal and some of the stuff I intend to sell is quite large, can I offer say a 5% discount off the winning bid? I know you can't surcharge for paypal but can you do the reverse?

Cheers

You get your money as soon as the bidder / winner pays. I have had bidders pay and seen their money in my PayPal account almost immediately.

this is true in some cases, maily for higher priced items, trouble is you never know when it will happen, it has never happened to me

Cheers guys, anything wrong with offering a discount for not using paypal, Can I do that? Had a quick google but can't see anything

Paypal hold money in your account on what they deem as high risk items.. Not sure what they consider high risk though.

you have to offer paypal, but yes you could add in your listing a discount for payment by other means, although most like to pay by paypal because they are covered, and its quickest way to pay

You have to offer paypal? Shows how long it is since I used ebay. How do they get away with that?

I think that PayPal is the way to go despite the obvious annoyances.

Think I'll look at selling locally, as some stuff to big to sell on here. Hear to many stories of sellers being ripped off with paypal on collection

Probably good idea. I have been ripped off three times by buyers since the recent eBay / PayPal changes.

Thanks for the help/advice. Repped

I offer free postage if they pay other than paypal. As I send alot by Special Del, it could save them £6 or so

The final value fees have jumped up too - under £30 its 8.75% and over its 8.75% on the first £30 then 5.25% on the rest!!

Think I'll use my local paper or similar. Didn't realise how expensive ebay was now.
