    Ebola case suspected in Swindon

    Banned
I think it's time that people working in Ebola treatment centres abroad are forced into quarantine before returning to the UK.

    What do you think?

    We are all doomed

It's too late, we are now facing the death of half the country..... maybe a bit over dramatic

That poor nurse who contracted ebola has deteriorated.hoping the treatment starts working.

Of course they should be, I fully expect a plague boat to be sitting just off our coast eventually, all those military people that dave the git Cameron volunteered to go deal with ebola, they are all going to come sailing back here eventually how long is the journey? A few weeks maybe.

I really do think theres a conspiracy here, no one can be that thick as to risk infecting the country so much unless thats what they want to happen.

    Where?

    Stephen King's The Stand.

    He knew what was coming.:{

Let's face it the world ignored this until it was too late. If it doesn't spread worldwide I will be amazed. The only real way to stop it is for all countries to stop travel to/from West Africa or at least segregate all those arriving for 7 days or more.
Anyone thinking of buying a house should put it on hold as I can see a vast drop in prices soon.

Symptoms can take 3 weeks to show, not a nice thought but quarantine may be the only option.

Remember the Swine Flu epidemic that never happened..... can't say i recall anyone getting it over here, but the government spent millions on drugs and advertising..... Wash your hands and dispose of tissues etc .....

Now this has emerged, what have we done.... oh yeah, resurrected a Song for 99p on iTunes ..... We are doomed!!!!!!

I caught swine flu and I know a few other people locally caught it too.
Best of it was I called nhs direct told them my symptoms and then my go made me go to the surgery where I sat in a waiting room for 30 mins sneezing and coughing.
So if they are as organised now as then..it's not looking great!

they where trying to minimise the panic by stating that ebola is a blood carried disease and cannot be caught by sneazing or other things

which obv with the number of cases is not correct as they obv dont know about the virus and dont provide propery decontamination procedures

Theres no cure, the Uk gov havent got a clue. Your on your own.

Actually, ebola can transfer on any bodily fluid, be it blood, sweat, tears, snot, saliva, breast mill, sperm, poo, or any other excretion the body may produce.

Reminds me of the African villages where they killed the medical teams coming to help them to fight ebola. They decided that the medics were coming to infect them with ebola, killed them then chucked their bodies in the village cesspit! Superstition everywhere eh?

Thought it would, every time we have 1 case we get a tonne of suspected cases and they really shouldn't report it as news until it is confirmed, the early symptoms are not much different to things like flu.

they want us infected or more likely in fear of it, thats why they don't do obvious things like build isolation camps near airports that people have to stay in before leaving infected countries, and the seemingly irrational move of sending navy boats, I am convinced we will have reports around the clock of a ebola stricken ship sat out in the ocean. Politicians like to keep the people in a constant state of fear, see the swine flu and bird flu rubbish before not sure what keeping the population in a constant state of fear of the unknown achieves but it clearly does something, even if its just silencing any voices apposed to stock piling medication that turns out to be as affective as a chocolate tea pot. Money is always at the heart of everything.

I got Swine Flu! True story, took the Tamiflu for 4days then stopped taking them as I thought they was going to kill me! Sent me delirious!

Lost a stone and a half over course of a week!

They made me stay at home and not see anyone. They sent paramedics out to me!

We had someone at work with swine flu, management was like its ok he's on tamiflu, didn't stop us all running to the other end of the office no one would go anywhere near him

I find it quite interesting that we can quite happily quarantine an animal (that can't complain) for several weeks "just in case" it has some nasty contamination/bug/illness/disease etc. and confiscate odd seeds/plants/organics "just in case" cross pollination/contamination occurs - yet a potentially epidemic/pandemic killer disease - not a lot happens, really. Check your temperature - ok. Feel ok? Off you pop then, have a nice day!

Whilst I really do hope the 'infected' nurse makes a full recovery, I still can't help feeling that these people DID put themselves in harms way (all credit to them - I hasten to add) so how hard would it be for them to subject themselves to a full quarantine/screening before returning to their country of origin? With most diseases, there is a determined 'period' of incubation so they should be quarantined for said period until there is NO chance of infection. Only then should they be allowed to travel.

As to the general populace - I have no idea. I don't for a second pretend to have an answer. However, as Error440 states, unfortunately it all comes down to the amount of money spent as to the level of 'precaution' taken. I assume the Government would wish to avoid an "outbreak" scenario at all costs due to the panic (and cost) that would ensue. Quarantine camps and the like would never even make it to the table, in reality. Our hospitals would be full to bursting with infected cases long before then. Tighter checks at ports/airports would be a definite step in the right direction. Back to time/money spent again there though. I don't know...

I guess we just have to rely on the good old tried and tested method of crossing your fingers and praying it all goes quietly away...

Here's hoping you remain happy and healthy in this New Year, people.

    Regards to all, Phsy.

Having worked in Ebola treatment centres putting themselves at risk I would have thought a couple of weeks on a beach holiday in Africa would be well earned. Quarantine them there until we know they are free from infection

The thing that concerned me the most was watching the guys scrubbing down the aid workers in their "hazmat" suits - just in slacks and a t-shirt! No mask - no gloves - just a brush on a stick! What about splashback? Then they were just carrying the removed suits off (presumably for destruction - or reuse!!!!!) with bare hands. It beggared belief. Speechless.

and yet if your job was removing asbestos panels you'd get a trailer decontamination shower thing, I guess its different because you can't sue anyone for catching ebola so no one cares
