    Edinburgh Restaurant Advice

I'm travelling to Edinburgh for a few days at the end of November and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a good restaurant?

I'm staying just off the Royal Mile, so would prefer something central.

I love Thai food and believe there are a couple of Thai restaurants there too. Has anyone been to any? If so - what do you think?

    Thanks

Superb French restaurant just down from Royal Mile.

As above CHOP CHOP featured last year on Ramsey's restaurant competition, also makes dumplings for Sainsbury`s

If you want to try other places as well as Thai then try the Basement at the top of Broughton Street just down from the Royal Mile/Bridges (end of York Place, top of Leith Walk). We go a lot and it has a mexican flavour to it as well as other stuff. Its a great place, lively but relaxed. Not expensive either.

That place was on Ramsays best restaurants this year - in fact it was on about 2 weeks ago.

They do rustic French Country Style - portions looked generous.

There's a lovely little thai restuarant just off Cockburn Street, about halfway down, Ruanthai it's called. Lovely food and not too expensive, you'll see a sandwich board on the pavement and it's down a little lane to the side of that....

    Best thai in Edinburgh passorn

There's also a decent Hard Rock Cafe for all your memorabilia and burger needs.

The one in Glasgow wasn't great. Small portions and slow service... Glad the Edinburgh one is better.

I can't wait to go now! Just a pity I'm only going for 3 nights!! :o)

Thanks for all of your comments and suggestions. All very much appreciated

My personal preference would be for Viva Mexico over Pancho Villas, my Texan friends said that Viva Mexico was more authentic.
