Edinburghs BEST hotel??

Have promised to take the OH for a treat in Edinburgh's best hotel. Not sure which one that is, but i'm assuming The Balmoral is the one to go for. Money is no object, just want the best hotel, best room, best service, best facilities etc.
Anyone have and experiance to share to help me decide?

lol... It was about 10 years ago I stayed there, was booked as I was on Business round the country. Might have been taken over as a Holiday Inn now, but it was alright when I was there.

Probably not what yo want if you want to give a good impression for the Missus then. I tried once with a Travelodge...............she went up the wall

im finding it hard to keep up lol. Has anyone stayed overnight in any of these?

If your after a hotel with quite a few facilities then you should consider The Scotsman hotel i posted.

I would really like to stay at The Witchery (next to the castle) but it seems impossible to get a booking unless its ages in advance.

We had a meal there and they were ridiculously snooty.

My sis and her hubby stayed here, a couple of years back -
macdonaldhotels.co.uk/rox…he/
We visited ( from our B&B lol).
It was very pleasant indeed, with the best shortbread I have ever had with a drink in the 'bar'. Their room was huge with everything you could possibly want and most luxurious.

I had a glance on tripadvisor (the oracle). I always find the reviews very interesting - people have such widely diverse experiences and opinions. Good locations for both the MacDonald hotels.
That stay in Edinburgh, a few years back, was the only time I've ever been to Scotland.

Drank a few times here lol...didnt realise it was such a fancy hotel. i do like the location though......Ocean Terminal is a nice visit for food and and cinema and the royal yacht.

tigerlilyedinburgh.co.uk/ I stay quite near edinburgh and i stay here for a nice weekend every so often. I love it the hotel and bar are great, quite modern so dont know what your tastes are,but i would def say try this hotel it's great. Am sure your partner would love it.

i've stayed in the balmoral a few years ago. its okay the room was nice & everything.

never went the bars or resturant - we used the pool again ok

but it wasnt the nicest hotel ive stayed in.

My boyfriend booked it because it was the same chain (rocco forte) as the st davids in Cardiff. in comparison st Davids was a 5* plus but id maybe rate the barmoral about 3*.

I guess it all depends on what style you like.

Ive heard dalhousie castle is nice.

the hudson hotel is lovely but doesnt have any lesuire facilities.

Le monde looks quite nice - every rooms id different. I they give you can get free access to the scotmans lesuire facilites.
