my degre is in media studies, and the position was for a digital arts officer.

try your local council - but go down to them dont ring, they have a list of vacancies and jobs that are coming up

media studies, is that where u watch neighbours and home and away?:-D

good luck with the job hunting, my advice get yourself out there and meet people who are in the industry you want to get into, do voluntary work if you have to, it will help.

whats your name, every thought about changing it? PM me for more info

I'd wah your car for £10, would be fairy washing up liquid and water though, extra £5 for it to be rinsed

cant you do voluntary work in your chosen field to gain experience cos that counts more than fancy 2:1 graduates, then if a position opens up you will stand a good chance

Could see about sticking myself in a box a posting myself to your doorstep via courier, you would have to pay for return postage.

I have a big enough box and plenty of bubble wrap.

Deal. :-D

No responsibility will be taken for suffocation if you forget air holes in your box.

Degree show the graduate's commitment to complete something.

try signing up to agencies those people are paid to find you work
also your univeristy lecturers should have info for you
furthermore you university should have some department for grads
if all else fails try targetjobs.com its for students and grads

recently graduated so i feel your pain

how about paper bags?

Both degrees and experience are relevant when applying for a job, but having both would be a massive advantage. Nowadays its not what you know but who you know.

My advice do what i did. Right to companies asking if you can offer your services for free and to gain a feel for what its like to work within the industry. I started doing that and go a job, had no real experience and now more knowledgable and studying part time also for degree.
Search for Media companies within your area. Or ive seen that the BBC do some kind of work experience you can go on as i was thinking of doing it -

jobs.bbc.co.uk/fe/…o06

Have a browse there, hope this helps!

Expectations of some graduates from some subjects against what is actually available in the market place. Migrant workers care a lot less in general.

Depends on the course, 100% employment on some courses for obvious reasons. I had my first job offer a year before graduation and the 2nd 6 months before graduation. I was nothing special. It just depends on the degree and University.

No, problem

I was nothing special though, just did the right course at the right time and it paid off.

I think this thread is evidence that you have to put effort into things or you get nowhere.

They show some level of knowledge too, of course.

Bah... i miss uni.... can not drink all afternoon no more

:oops:I was making the opposite point, sorry!

I just think that if i was looking for a graduate career, I wouldn't think a badly worded begging note on a forum with awful grammar would get me far. I know it is harsh. However, I do not work in HR for a media company though, so I might be wrong.
