Employment Tribunal

Hello,

My sisters partner is taking his ex employer to an Employment Tribunal.

I was wondering if anyone has any advice as to whether he should take legal representation or not?

I dont think you need legal rep for an employment tribunal but there are several options

1. Contact FRU (they offer free legal rep) www.freerepresentationunit.org.uk
2.. Could go to your local CAB and they can offer some advice and maybe giive him an appointment with an employment solicitor who can help prepare the case

try acas too they are brilliant

check out www.acas.org.uk
they helped me when i needed advice better than cab did unfortunatly

oh sorry you not have good experience with cab. I work there and a lot depends on the adviser you get when you go there

I assume free legal advise - depends where u based - look up local law centres and get in contact, they sometimes help, including representation with such cases or alternatively they can make a referal to other organisations.
An alternative excellent tip- if she has household insurance - it normally includes legal cover and this usually covers employment cases aswell.

Trust me he will need all the help he can get -its not easy, but most of all its extremly stressfull.

There is a great website that has lots of information on those pursing a case at the ET, when I get the link I will pass it on

Hope above useful:)

Thanks, acas has been in touch with him, they have tried to resolve it without the need of Tribunal, they are very good but cannot give their opinion as they have to act on both parties!

If you have legal cover on your household insurance.... make use of it. It should cover for all contractual problems - which employment will fall under.

i used it myself recently. The use of solicitors and barrister in the court on the day was free - and the 5 figure out of court settlement I finally agreed on, was 100% mine. (Dont use those no win no fee companies - they are leeches.)
