A degree of self pity is allowed at this hour.......

Older 2 kids in different hemispheres. Have just waved off my baby 2 hrs ago...only 1/2 hr flight to Ireland....she is 16. Brings back so many memories.

There is nothing sad about the situation, they are all confident and independent, so we must have done a good job (not that it feels that way)

Just focuses things / reality.........We are getting older!!!

BTW, I am 54.

I'll lend you my 3 and i'll kip on the sofa all day.

can't wait until mine are old enough to look after themselves, then I can divorce my self centred wife and reclaim a bit of happiness.
Only another 11 years to go. sigh.

So right. I have more conversations on Skype than I ever had when they were here!! How did people manage before Skype?

Oh and BTW......they will be coming back. That is the sad part, in these times they will be lucky to get a mortgage by 40

Could be worse - they could be stuck at home in their mid-20s.

They will be after their adventures.....then I will wonder why I ever missed them this bad. Never thought I would miss the daily shouting and rows.

It is ridiculous that I feel like this, not logical. They are happy, I am very busy but no inclination to do it

my other half thought that, then left his wife when he met me. his son loves it, as he sees his dad happy.

I think I must be the odd one out, i am fearful of the days when my lot get up and go.

I admit it gets busy and stressful, but these are proving to be the best days of my life.
Fair enough they provide me with challenges and some days I feel like all i do is yell, I do also wish i could spend less time tidying/working/running round, but i suppose that's life.

I dream of peace, time to myself, and having some money and resources to do the things i want to do, but i suspect that when that time arrives it may be very empty.

Sending hugs OP, maybe now is the time when you get to start an adventure you have spent a generation putting aside to look after your family?
Is therre anything you have always wanted to do? You have paid your dues so now it's time to reward yourself
