    Empty theatres.

I have recently been to the theatres in Eastbourne. Friday I saw Evita, last week we saw Brief Encounter and the week before Beauty and the Beast. All of them wonderful productions. I was dismayed to see that the theatre on every occasion was very empty.

When was the last time you went to the theatre and it was full to bursting.....and , what was on the bill.

Please do not include Arenas, concerts etc. Just theatre productions.

I went to see Derren Brown at a Nottingham Theatre and it was full to capacity.

An Arthur miller play in the playhouse was only half full. Cats, Joseph, Footloose, etc have all been over 75% full

I love the theatre, but do think it's a little pricey sometimes. hope its not a dying entertainment

Cant remember the last time I went and there was a lot of empty seats.

It is far too expensive, but a worthwhile expense in my opinion.

Went last night to see 'One night in Istanbul' at the Liverpool Empire. It was produced to try and get people who dont usually go to the theatre, to go. You could tell. Nearly left at the intermission because it was difficult to follow it because about half the audience got up and went out at least once. 3 people on our row went to the bar/toilet twice, and one person went out 3 times (making the whole row stand 6 times just for him!) Rows infront had to keep standing up as well to let people past. Few mobiles went off as well.

It was disrespectful and annoying for the audience, but it is just so bad mannered to the people performing, it must be very off-putting. I am not meaning to sound snobby, but you could tell that these people are not used to being in a theatre and dont understand theatre etiquette.

I think kids should go to the theatre from a young age, but the only way for this to happen is to bring the ticket prices down. Some places will offer cheaper (or sometimes even free) tickets for kids, but the adults tickets still make it very expensive. Going to the theatre is such a wonderful experience and I think everyone should be able to enjoy it.

    Sorry, rant over

I went to see 'The Price' at the Liverpool playhouse and it was full, that was about 6months ago

Price in Eastbourne is of course much cheaper than London but Evita was still £35 for the best seats. Beauty and the Beast which really is no better than a pantomime and really is for kids would have cost a family of four over £100 for two hours entertainment. My opinion is that the cheap seats should be one cheap price, perhaps £10 and then the stalls and best seats charge your higher prices.

I use the complimentary tickets that my mate gets for advertising the shows in his restaurant.

I took the children to see Milkshake Live at Tunbridge Wells theatre yesterday,it was 4 tickets for £30,had special offer on Ticketmaster for a few days, eldest a bit old but he was ok to watch it.
It was packed out, hardly any empty seats.

Mine go quite often, aswell as to the larger productions at arenas too.

they deserve to all go bust...too expensive to watch.....supply and demand....lower the price and more people will come...when they close down and blame the credit crunch its all rubbish..they are just far too greedy...still i suppose they could get jobs in the banks...LOL

young people can of course use 'A night less ordinary'

I have never understood the policy of many firms who would rather sell a few items at an inflated price rather than sell hundreds at a lower price.

    eg. theatre tickets, Cineworld refreshments

I saw a poster about that now come to think of it,for under 26 or so,but couldn't remember exactly what I saw.

I went to the theatre once with a girlfriend, and made the mistake of lighting up in the seats. This was before the smoking ban in public places.
The woman that was holding an urn full of chocolate money(can;t remember what the play was about) came down off the stage and while singing stubbed my girlfriends cigarette out. I was so embarassed, I turned away and stubbed my own ciggy out!

    What a night!

We go once a year to see the pantomime at the Kings Theatre in Southsea

    Yes its just too expensive.

    Carousel. Was *****.

At 6'3" I always have to get an aisle seat or the front row. My next jaunt will be to see Shaun Williamson in Porridge.

The few times I've been to the theatre it's always been full (last time I went was to see that show with people dressed up as trains on rollerskates).

I go to the cinema quite regularly though and more often than not it is just me and my friend plus 2 other people in the cinema (except on Wednesdays and at weekends)

    Grease in london, twas full.

We saw Rob Brydon at the Theatre a month or so ago - I think it was the Apollo Theatre.

    Most seats were filled.

All the pantomimes we go to are choc-a-bloc

Last time I went to see Grease that was full too.

All our shows have been in London Central or Cambridge

It was at the Bristol Hippodrome. When I was a student, I lived about 5 mins walk from there.

Watched The Mousetrap @ St Martins (incredibly beautiful), theatre was fully packed and a fab performance by the cast
