Energy company.

I have been with British gas for a few years but the last couple of months (I know it's Winter) but my bills seem to have shot up. I have heard EDF are very good? Is it worth changing?

Weve just swapped to First Utility. Monthly bills have gone down by £45 (dual fuel)

And U-Switch

I've switched at least 3 times over the last few years. The new quotes are always less then inevitably the direct debit goes up each time!
The only thing I feel I've gained was the £50 cash back each time and Scottish power were by far the worst company.
Im with edf now and after only 2 months my monthly payment rose by £20

I used to be with Scottish Power. Truly awful company.

Everyone will have different opinions but I have never dealt with such incompetent, idiotic morons as British / Scottish Gas. For one, they can never seem to read a meter properly, no matter how hard they try. Scottish Power also seem to have this trait.

I'm with Eon. Never had a problem with them. No dodgy "estimated" readings, just the same montly payments each month throughout the year. We use more energy in the winter so any overpayments from the summer goes to credit and toward the winter.

Beware Scottish power...when you want to join them they answer any phone call within seconds, emails likewise.
Have a problem and nobody answers the phone!
I even met a woman on holiday who worked for them...to say she was highly embarrassed was an understatement, she even said their complaints record was shocking!

Martin Lewis (moneysavingexpert) has been banging on about changing energy provider for ages. Go to a few screenscraper sites and don't tick the box that says.........sites we can change you to today, as they filter out all but the sponsered sites. Also, change provider via topcashback.

Check the utility comparison sites with your actual annual usage in KWh, decide if you want a fixed price deal or not, then check cashback sites fir extra bonuses

I can recommend EDF, especially their Blue+Price Promise tariff. In my own words, this tariff means your energy prices are fixed until whatever month/year you choose to fix for. I currently have my gas and electric costs fixed until May 2016. the tariff also means they will contact you if any other company offers a tariff at £1 a week less than you are paying. And they do not charge any fee should you choose to switch to somebody else later on.

BUT A FEW WORDS OF CAUTION

Fixing of course means should prices drop then you may not have chosen wisely - and of course as we all know prices are dropping. The one irritating thing about EDF is they will not tell you when they themselves offer a cheaper a tariff than the one you have. But I keep an eye on them and twice now I have switched to a cheaper tariff from EDF themselves. They make this easy - but they just dont tell you. So, they do drop their prices - they just dont tell you about it. So check every 2 months or so to get the cheapest - as soon as you switch they backdate your savings to the switch date.

They have a dreadful reputation for poor customer service.

OVO Energy are a great company, they even pay 3% interest on any credit balance.
