is it a diamond ring?

most contents insurance will cover valuables up to £1.5K or £2K but you can add on higher value items for a small increase in premium. my mum used to do this with her jewellery and it was cheaper than getting the jewellery insured individually. The most expensive ring she had was £6,000 but this was about 20 years ago.

unless your ring is a lot more expensive then you will need specialist insurance and an amoury of body guards when you wear it out and about. X)

Yes its a diamond ring. The house insurance doesn't cover items that leave the house. I'm pretty happy to use thmarch. I just need to find the best way to get the ring valued.

if it is a diamond ring then it will be best to get it valued by a diamond dealer. i would make a special trip to hatten garden in london if you can get there.

Seems odd that your insurance doesn't cover your jewellery when worn outside the home. My friend lost her engagement ring at the gym and her insurance paid out no problem. Any decent jeweller will value the ring. My jeweller charges £10 per item and 1% of value. I am insured with NFU and I find them really good but I use them for building and contents and all my decent jewellery is listed on my policy as anything over £1000 has to be in order to be covered.

most jewellers will value the ring but as it is diamond, only a diamond dealer will be able to ascertain its true value and issue a diamond clarity certificate which is very important for expensively cut stones. a diamond dealer will be able to give the OP an accurate valuation of the ring so she will know how much it is worth.

She stated that she already has a GIA certificate which has all the diamond details on it but most decent jewellers have a gemmologist on staff to value and grade stones and they will also give you a accurate valuation - in my opinion

I'd check into it with THMarch and their T&Cs. I'm with John Lewis and as long as I have the ring checked every year for setting and its specified on the policy I'm covered but hayes have to pay abit more to get it added.

I think some of the reasons I went for JL over THMarch people was price but also not sure if they cover theft, loss, accidental damage leading to loss etc. End of the days it's insurance - read the small print!
