    English Springer spaniel food

Just got an English Springer spaniel pup, 17 weeks old.

The breeder is feeding her James will be loved puppy dry food, we will continue this to 6 months for consistency for her growth and digestive system..

We will be looking into a transition to a junior bulk dry mix for her adult life, looking further into it it's a minefield of different makes and prices.

Does anyone have experiences and recommendations to a quality mix at reasonable prices? Which would be a good transition?..

Any information would be very much appreciated, thanks in advance.

Mine has just done the transition from puppy to adult food in the past two weeks and I've him on "Feedwell Sport" although he will be a working dog and I'm unsure of the availability of this dog food outside of N.Ire/Ire as it is a home grown brand. They do a lot of sponsorship here for field trails and such and always good to support a brand from your own country. I pay around £13 for 15kg bag. Pets at Home,Spar and local Farm Feed Supplies stores all stock it here.

Below was "Patch" at 18 weeks.

He looks great shape, ready to go. Thanks for the pic..

So we could potentially move her onto adult food sooner than I expected?, she is our pet not working but fields aplenty here so good 2/3 hour days out in them.

Great price, something to work on, and great to here sponsoring local FT, I like that.

    Thanks again for the post..

I'll shot a pic of ours,

Excellent, I'll keep an eye out at our local pets at home, thanks..

My vet once told me that puppy or kitten food is a waste of time its not actually needed as in the wild theyd just eat normally after finished weaning.

    Cute pup btw

Thanks batman, I guess that makes sence and wouldn't disagree, I do like the small kernal grains of the pup food, and will be keeping an eye on kernel sizes when transition takes place.

Im guessing its all the same just different sizes etc??.. be interested to know, will have to check out some ingredients, cheers

    Oh, and thanks

I was told that anything you can buy in the supermarket (Tescos, Asda etc) is absolute tosh.

If you apply the same logic to humans would you not want nice food too?

Yes i would but i assume dogs like what goes into dog food. According to my vet its fine to feed it adult dog food and although not particularly good for him the odd treat from a humans plate does them no harm in moderation lol

Aye theres no harm in feeding them puppy food i gather its slightly more expensive but im not sure as ive not got a dog its a cat but vet says same applies. If the pup likes the puppy good and thrives theres no harm in it

I guess the thinking behind it is animals tend to become used to a food and may not like the change further down the line but from experience most cats and dogs wil eat anything they can get near lol

When I first got our puppy he cleared the garden of all the snails and the patio of any tiny bits of moss that had been disturbed by the birds on the roof. God knows why he liked snails, the noise used to drive me crazy and despite clearing them as best I could, he always found more. Hopefully he has grown out of it now though

I had a similar problem trying to decide which food to move my labrador onto but I found this site was a great help:
    allaboutdogfood.co.uk
For me, it was the easiest way to compare all the different brands within my price range and find something decent (or at least avoid spending money on something really rubbish!).
This site could also be worth a look for you:
    englishspringer.org.uk/smf…rum
I picked up loads of tips and recommendations from a similar forum run by Labrador owners.
Anyway, goodluck with your new addition to the family - I'm sure she will give you a lot of joy (and possibly have you tearing your hair out at times too!).

That's fantastic many thanks, I'll definitely be checking these links out..

And yes certainly hard work but great fun!!.

    Thanks

My springer refuses to eat any of the posh dog food we give her...just picks at it .
Give her a tin of anything from a supermarket and she wolf's it down. make of that what you will...
