Estate agent wants proof of funds before viewing

Hi, I rang the estate agent today to book a viewing for a property. They requested a copy of the AIP. However, also requested a proof of my funds/deposit. This is the first time an EA has asked me about proof of funds before actually viewing.

I did mention this to EA but they said the vendor wants to know you are serious, only wants limited viewings based on serious buyers etc etc. Is this now normal for them to ask this info before even viewing as I believed they only ask this once you make an offer?
