Depends if you have a crash i guess !

Its rated from 1 to 5 and 5 being the safest

What car is it? The score needs a little bit of checking rather than just the overall number.

I think 3 explodes on impact.

OP are you intending to crash the car at all?

Hmm, what a daft question, why do people put alarms in their houses, do they intend to get robbed?

You have to check the inside safety rating, some of them have poor overall ratings due to hitting someone that is outside the car. 3 star is low to todays standards in my opinion though

Ok, well it isn't a good score at all (I asked for the car because it depends on what system it was on and what size car it is). Put it like this, similar cars offer 5* protection and almost all very small cars have 4*.

However, the system is difficult to apply to real world situations other than "if you are in some types of crash in a 3* car, you are more likely to be more significantly injured than if you are in a 4* car of similar size". It is just an indication but a useful one in my opinion.

    Mine has 5 stars

I just cant seem to find the perfect car. i decide on the panda as its a god price, insurance is low and so is tax but im worried about the euro n cap.
Do you know what good small cars are £35 a year tax? (thanks for all your help by the way)

    Thanks everyone

    Renault clio 1.5 DCi

It all depends on your budget and needs tbh. Tax price isn't important, you might save £20 on tax then end up having a car that needs £100 tyres or is £200 more to insure

Don't get too cut up about £35/year tax, they are introducing a further tax band between C and D to help out as well, so cars just around the 120 g/km band will be now lower (£95).

Is a basic list, but it is not comprehensive, the Suzuki Swift DDIS, Punto and Clio are missing for example.

Although cheap tax is nice, it's only a small cost of motoring and other things are probably more important.

    Here is another list:

You really seem completely open to any car, so why not select a few and go to the dealerships with a £6k budget and see what is on offer. You would be good to try:

Seat, Renault, VW, Fiat, Suzuki, Ford, Toyota etc.

Don't take too much notice of the ratings, they are only tested in certain conditions, not the real world conditions,.

The " nut " behind the wheel is the major most dangerous part of any car.

I disagree, it is still a good test of how the car will hold up in an accident to be honest
