Euro Trip

3/4 of us are hoping to stay 4 nights in paris and 4 nights in amsterdam in June time.

Going by car on the ferry from dover to calais.

Does anyone know the cheapest way this can be done? and cheap hotels in paris/amsterdam that are decentish?

Thanks

Do you have a hotel budget? And is it definately 3 or 4 in 1 or 2 rooms?

I've just been timed-out 4 times on my advice. Trying again but in bits.

1. Figure out what you actually want to do - Monet's garden/ Reijsmuseum(sp?)/Montmatre?/ Louvre? /Canals + Flowers?/ Red light district (gone seriously down-hill over the last 25 years). Versailles is great but probably too far out for a short trip and not for inclement weather.

Are you driving? Think about the distance/ relation of hotel to where you'll end up.

Get on to the usual sites - Expedia and so on - to find out what is availlable in terms of hotels etc in the precise parts of Paris/Amsterdam where you want them - then go on to the hotel websites and then talk to them personally to see what's on offer - believe me, they all talk perfect English and will have something up their sleeves.l

You have to do the Metro to the Eiffel tower but if you are central everything else is walkable in Paris and Amsterdam.

So,it's well worth thinking about flights rather than ferry.
There's tons of central and reasonably priced hotels.
Check them out in terms of location and star rating on their own web sites.

n' th time I've lost contact - a bit cross!! -in June it's school holidays everywhere so rooms should be at lowish tariffs.

If you decide to fly rather than ferry ( I would do ferry if it was just Amsterdam but fly if it was both) do an (on-line) shuttle to the centre rather than taxi / pos. train if you are confident in French

Haven't actually managed to get much posted but good luck and enjoy your trip.

Bottom line - they all speak English - in Holland, better than we do!! - get on-line, get on the phone and sort out a break that you want to do!!:-D

Thanks for the advice, but we would like to travel by car as part of the experience.
So you reckon I should talk to them personally? i.e. phone or e-mail? maybe i'll try that
My friend suggested we turn up on the night and ask for rooms, is that a good/bad idea?

If any of you have a good stash of Tesco Clubcard points then you can use these to pay for the Eurotunnel. We've just done it for the summer - £35 of tokens was worth £140 of Tunnel fares so our journey should have been £146 , but has cost me £6!

Yes, phone or e-mail after you've narrowed it down to likely ones.
June is going to be quite busy - nice weather - so I wouldn't risk just turning up, although if you've got the car ...!

The ferry turned out cheaper then the eurotunnel. Does any1 have any personal experience of staying in paris/amsterdam and could recommend me any cheap hotels?
