    Excel Date Help Please

    Hi,

Is there a way where I can make users enter date only in a certain way - either with a pop up window warning them to do it a different way or something which automatically formats it into 00/00/00 type thing?

I've tried tools, format, cells, date but even though a click on my preferred layout, it still lets me enter date in any old way.

    Thanks for your help.

Use Data Validation, great for restricting cel formats

+1 - they'll get a popup telling them the date entered is not valid if they try and enter in the wrong format. The only down side is you have to define the start date and end date in the range.

    e.g.
    Start: 01/01/1900
    End 01/01/2100

Brilliant that does work. Have now decided to go one better ......do you have an idea of how I could do a drop down date box instead?

You can use validate to a list, that will allow you to specify a list of valid options elsewhere on the sheet and validate agianst that. The list needs to be complete, seems strange for dates?

I would tend not to bother unless it is a short list of dates.... If it goes on for 20 years thats a lot of dates to go through.. People will do that instead of typing the date, they will search through the listing:x:x
